You're not kidding. Sales tax is ridiculous.

Well, I grew up in the PRK (9.25%) and I've done two tours at Ft Lewis, WA (9%).

So quantify ridiculous.

    8.25%

I grew up in MD with 5%, so 8.25 is pretty ridiculous.

Best I can tell, 7.75-8.25% seems to be the norm here in NC.  So, 8.25% isn't that bad from where I've been.

Tennessee is $150 for CP for first 4 years + cost of class, anywhere from $50 up for the class instruction with $50 renewal fee for 4 years. By the way, sales tax on most everything is 9.25% or higher depending on what the county or city tack on. What we need is a nationwide constitutional carry permit without any fees. I believe that if a card is required, then just pay for the background check. Nothing more. JMHO   :banghead

I'll clarify that in Texas, the state sales tax is 6.25%. Then they allow counties to add up to 2% for a total of 8.25%.

I'll give you one guess how much of that 2% every county has tacked on.

Well, I grew up in the PRK (9.25%) and I've done two tours at Ft Lewis, WA (9%).

    So quantify ridiculous.

    16% Fed Income Tax
    6% Soc.Sec. Tax
    2% Medicaid/Medicare Tax
    8% State Income Tax
    1% Municipality Tax
Property Taxes at up to 1% of assessed property value.
$384 Tax for Vehicle and Plates for Two 2005 Used Vehicles.
    $164 Mo. for forced Insurances.
    7% State sales tax.
    7% Restaurant/Hotel/Entertainment Tax.
    18% Fed Gas/road tax.
7% State Gas/road tax plus 7% State Sales Tax on the whole amount (Yes it's a double tax!).

So I'd say...yes that is more than ridiculous. I'd say it is oppressive even.

Also what's stupid is having to pay taxes on stuff you have brought and paid for (plus paid initial sales taxes for). Property taxes are ridiculous...bribing the government so they won't come and take your stuff that you own free and clear.

I tend to subscribe to the Thomas Paine outlook on property taxes (more or less), but that's just me.   ;)

    My, this thread has wandered...

You're not kidding. Sales tax is ridiculous.

Property taxes are high too, but my state income tax is zero, so it all works out in the end.

Back closer to the original topic, TX doesn't charge for a CHL for active duty military members, but how about spouses?

Spouses are not active duty military so there is no discount for them unless they qualify for one of the other special circumstances.

I figured I'd ask, since some states offer various waivers to both active military and dependants.

No discount for spouses, but because yours is free, you're basically getting hers for half-price.

    Creative math. :shrug
