What are you doing, if anything, if the SHTF?
« on: November 04, 2008, 01:04:45 am »
I purchased this today and another similar to it.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvhZwqA71Rw&feature=related%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20Buy%202%20of%20them

Americans have turned into sheeple and if Obama wins tomorrow I will be purchasing 2 more rifles.  I am thinking of purchasing 10 acres in OK where I do not pay sales tax or property tax and where it is not heavily populated.

Is anyone else worried if Obama is elected tomorrow with a super majority congress, what that will mean to gun rights?  Did anyone else purchase guns or will purchase them if he wins tomorrow in case he and Pelosi go after gun rights?

What is anyone doing to prepare in case Obama wins and things later start to hit the fan?   I was no Y2K crazed person and did not stock up on toilet paper but have to admit Obama saying he wants to have a civilian police force (thought we had one when we called 911 and a federal one in the military) but he wants another one.   That kind of Gestapo type separate police force (on Youtube video) along with all those children of the corn videos singing his praises makes me nervous.   That and a depression.

Pop a Bud, or pour a Jack.   Make a game plan of which cases and
what caliber to load first.   Humm, what MRE for lunch?   Get a supply
of wood for the stove and maybe turn onn the radio and see what
the world might be doing.   Ok, prep cases for loading in the AM.
and check on neighbors to see what needs could be.   KISS
Keep it simple stupid.   At least I know there is no reason to leave
an area that I  know for areas that are unknown.   Bottom line,
    I'm staying home ;D

    Americans have turned into sheeple

Have you ever stopped to consider the irony of calling people sheep?  The argument boils down to, "anyone who does not think like I do are not free thinkers, as if they were they would think like I do." Those with differing opinions are then dismissed outright as not free thinking, and those who agree are automatically accepted as free thinkers.  This supposition goes against the very nature of independent thought.

Next, buying property in an area where there is no property tax is rather silly for your fears. Assuming some sort of calamity where the government turns against the people, does the property tax really matter? Buying it as a fall back location is only really practical as a long term investment, as long term is the only scenario where not having to pay property taxes makes sense.  If you want the land, more power to you.  But if you are really convinced that things will go south in the next couple years sufficiently to buy 10 acres of land, property tax seems like a non issue.

Finally, if you are really afraid of an great government evil that has the ability to spy on the people and seize their guns, why are you telling it all about your plans?  The internet is free and open, it seems like the first place they would look would be gun forums. You just put a giant neon sign over your head that says "Take mine first!"

    Bingo!

I think the OP nailed (at least) one thing on the head.

I was going to order an AR kit online today, but finances this month didn't allow for it. But the way I see it, I have a month or two till B.O. can sign a new AWB into law. The guns will be available till January, at least. So, I'll save a bit more and buy before inauguration day, if B.O. wins.

Well maybe sheep is a strong word for those who mill around while
the wolves dine on them.   Or desire change, but don't realize that
those changes can end life as they know it!   Don't recall anything
of living on tax free land...NOT.   In fact along with voting time,
it's property tax due time.   This isn't fall back property, I have lived
here for years.   Ya never own land, only get to pay taxes on it.
Miss the taxes, it belongs to some else in a short time.   If things
go south, why move somewhere to the unknown where conditions
could be many times worst.   Used to be a sniper saying that you
can run, but you will just die tired.
Humm, load up those cases of home brew so they are in a kinder
environment.   Write out a check for half the property tax.   Damn
my ship is coming in cause Obama with see that I pay no taxes on
my 250,000 dollars.   Now if I can just convince the state to do the
same with their taxes I can afford to buy a used 22 and a box of
    ammo.   Single shot of course.
OOPS, felt picked on !!! Your message was for Woodlandtrails.
Sorry I put ya in the crosshairs of a rant :cuss :cuss :banghead
Got to kind of relate to conditions though and agree of the serious
situation we are in.   All those free thinkers from above vote the
same people term after term to control by law what the population
must follow, even if they are immune to the same.   Nope don't fear
the govenment, just dislike the control over our life.   I recall them
taking over a Brothel in Nevada for the owner not paying his fair
share of profits earned.   The government ran it, and could never
get it to operate out of the red.   Think I would like to manage my
own money, thank you.   Paranoid on the gun thing?  Nope again.
This country has many millions of guns and owners.   Some real
logistics to seek and collect.   Pretty sure Canada has many un-
accounted for weapons with some of areas as strict as England.
I think help would need to be enlisted outside of the scope of things.
Local law I doubt would be interested.   In this county 26,000 with
less than 50 officers, gun owners are many times a welcome addition
    at times.
I don't know if tax free was the point of his area.   Fear now is
the loss of property due to not being able to pay.   Taxes continue
to rise and income and dollar value drops.   I know of some Nam vets
living in this area selling personal things just to keep their homes.
Guess what???   ALWAYS there are those who penetrate gun
forums for what ever reason.   Just like the Feds go undercover to
become members of outlaw motorcycle gangs like the Hells Angels
and Mongols to enforce the RICO act.   Not always black and white,
    but sometimes gray areas.
I can see what you are saying, but also see how Woodlandtrails
feels is his way of dealing with this serious situation is the answer
he feels comfortable with.   I have a different outlook, but can relate
to what he said, only might handle my situation much differently.
Food supply, medical, and food storage pretty well put me in a
positive frame of mind.   Other stuff is kind of busy work! ;D

It is NOT a stupid idea to live in state I do not have to pay sales or property tax in.  IF nothing happens, I save money.  If it does, I am safer due to lower populations and have land to grow food.

I also stand by the word SHEEPLE because people like my neighbor DO NOT think for themselves.  They do zero research and believe the 1 minute sound bites on TV.   They are led around by the nose.    My neighbor is pro gun.  Doesn't own one and is not an NRA member (I purchased him a 1 year NRA membership and he doesn't know it).  HE IS A typical SHEEPLE.    He told all our neighbors Obama was FOR GUN RIGHTS and that he believed in a strong border.   NOTHING anyone said would convince him so I walked home, grabbed some back editions of 1st Freedom mag and  gave them to him.  Now because he actually READ and thus RESEARCHED by reading what the NRA said about Obama and guns he believes that Obama will take away our guns.  I then printed OUT all Obama's stands on the border and illegal amnesty and he NOW believes because I printed out about 50 pages of proof that obama will have more open borders and driver licenses for illegals than McCain ever thought of having.

BUT, the SHEEPLE still voted for Obama.  Why?  He believes obama will send him a check like the Alaska residents get.    He doesn't care if it comes from Joe the Plumber or that he didn't earn it.   He can't get ahead so he will take what he can get.    He is a Sheeple.  A voter who wants the wolf to protect the flock as they are too dumb to protect themselves.

    ************************************************

BUT, the SHEEPLE still voted for Obama.

While I disagree with your definition of research, we shall assume your own reasoning for the moment.

There are two outcomes had he changed his mind (and vote):

    A) He is still a sheep as he is just followings different shepard (you).  This presumes that having met the standard of research as you noted, one cannot make an independent choice as they are just being "led around".  This would mean that you are also a sheep as you read the same material and reached the same conclusion, and it wold be intellectually hypocritical to assign one outcome a positive connotation and another a negative when it is the same result reached by the same means.

    B) He is no longer a sheep.  Given that his decision, by your account, is based solely upon what information you gave him (as you have already assumed he has no outside sources of real knowledge) this means that the standard of who is and who is not a sheep is based solely on whether they agree with you or not.  This then feeds into my original argument, and it means that the term is nothing more that a socially polarizing way to try and coerce conformity with your line of thinking.

There is, of course, a third option.

    C) The person, having researched made a conscious and informed decision based upon the issues and candidates and voted.  The person has disagreed with you, but that is the nature of democracy.

Personally, voting for Obama seems like a far more reasonable, informed, and well thought out idea than stockpiling guns, moving to the middle of no where in fear of a one day Gestapo, relying upon NRA magazines for your research, and then telling everyone (including the great Gestapo bogyman) exactly what you are doing.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with living in the country or owning your own arsenal of guns.  But when moving out there and buying them is grounded in the fear of governmental oppression, it seems like if you are right all you are doing is giving them more reason just to drop a bomb, as you've just reduced collateral damage.

Besides, sheep go to heaven, goats go to hell.  :neener

I don't have any ICBM's or Aircraft Carriers,   but  don't think I won't call the local Air National Guard to deliver an airstrike on an enemy position,  because I will.

I'm going squirrel hunting this afternoon, then turkey hunting, tomorrow I will go to the hardware store and work on my storage shed.  Then I will read posts about people running around yelling the sky is falling.  Finally I will go to bed with a good book till I get sleepy while the fear mongers are disappointed that they have nobody to shoot at.

I bought my AK after Obama clinched the Dem nomination.  It, with two 30 round magazines, will stay close by the next few days in case some goblins want to use any election result as an excuse to cause trouble.  It will be in addition to my daily carry handgun and my BUG and blade.
The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting.
