On that note, for future reference, can you guys tell me companies that make quality holsters and belts?

For leather, I've had good luck with holsters from Desantis and El Paso Saddlery and I love the belt I got from The Belt Man.

Ted Blocker, Milt Sparks, The Beltman, Wilderness Tactical, Desantis, Galco...lots of companies out there for holsters and belts.

I'd avoid Galco belts- you can get better for the money. Most of their holsters are good, though.

Avoid Blackhawk (especially the SERPA holster...), Uncle Mikes, etc...

Because there are decent options (like Bladetech, Raven Concealment, Custom Carry Concepts, Wilderness Tactical) that won't cost you a bundle while still being good quality, I advise not wasting your time and hard earned money with the cheap crap.

And then there are a whole bunch of companies that make custom and semi-custom leather...

Piece together your rig and handgun early because getting gear can mean a wait of some time. I was lucky in that Ted Blocker had belts in stock (email them) and Brownells carries the Milt Sparks Summer Special 2.

Some good manufacturers for holsters and gun belts are:

               Milt Sparks.
               Gould and Goodrich.
               Desantis.
               Bianchi, inc.
               Kydex.

Now this isn't all inclusive by any means, But these are the ones that I deal with the most. Just remember that If you carry, you should always buy a purpose built belt to go with the holster. Double layered , Double stitched leather is the best in my opinion.

I have a galco sb3 belt. Its more sturdy than the one I used to use, but I wish it was more stiff.

    Leather or Kydex?

I really like Mitch Rosen leather. I've also had good luck with Alfonso's of Hollywood (favorite leather belt ever). For Kydex, I've tried a lot, and had good luck with cottage makers. I really want to try one of Custom Carry Concepts rigs.

Like most have stated, my first time out in public carrying a CCW was a bit unnerving.  I constantly had to fight the urge to check it, the quick touch to know for certain it was still there.

Any more though, given that OC is legal here, I OC vs. CC on about a 50/50 ratio.  There are a few places I have to very careful not to print, but as a general rule I don't worry about printing/showing too much.  KEEP IN MING THOUGH THAT YOUR STATE LAWS MAY BE WILDLY DIFFERENT THAN MINE, and printing, much less OC, will cause you a lot of grief.........
This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty. . . . The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction- St. George Tucker, Blackstone's Commentaries

We don't have OC here in SC, but apparently concealment is a "reasonable measure" proposition in case it accidently shows or prints. I.E., you can't walk around with half the gun sticking out below your shirt, but if your shirt blows back or whatnot and someone catches a glimpse of your gun, you are OK and not screwed. I'm glad we at least get that concession vs. in some of the strict states.

Once you've had it on your body for a few hours, walking around in a public place, you gain confidence and it gets a lot more "comfortable".

I grew up in Arizona, and carrying firearms of one type or another through the boonies and around town since I was about eight (bb guns to pellet guns to .22s, shotguns, rifles, then handguns). I started open carrying the summer after I graduated from high school, so concealed carry was no big deal. I actually got my first IWB holster a few months before I got my CCW. I don't remember being nervous, but do remember getting my permit in the mail, and feeling a little giddy.

Well my first time carrying was not at Wal-mart, but since reading this I have made a point of carrying there anytime I go. :neener

I can't remember my first time carrying. I'm pretty sure it was just around town running errands.

Like others have said I was self conscious at first. However, since then I have perfected the 'Picard Maneuver' http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Picard%20maneuver when I get out of my car or slide out of a booth while eating out.

    Most folks are oblivious.
