If you're truly preparing for SHTF,etc.   I recomend always having:

An aloevera plant.    Although it wouldn't be a full-body type thing, if you just got a decent burn on an arm/leg you can't beat it.   We've tried a few gels,etc. but Aloevera is tough to beat.

     It was kinda a wakeup call, I haven't really put much thought into it, happened to burn a good 3" chunk of skin (the center being nice and gooey looking even...), after an aloevera application:  Pain went down almost immediately and it's feeling a HUGE amount better.

    Now just to clean it up and make sure no infection sets in.   

Very few houses here don't have at least one plant in the yard. You can make a tea from the skin, use the sap for burns, cuts, scraps etc on humans and animals. And I have used it on extensive sun burns (pretty much her whole body, she fell asleep at a tops opitional beach) and usually keep some around the work site for small nicks and such. I have been told you can consume it like a veggie but 

I remember my mother always kept an aloe vera plant around.  I remember it felt really good on sunburns.  I'm fair skinned and always burned the first time I was out in the sun in the springtime.  After my first burn I tanned and never had a problem but I always had that first burn to get out of the way.  The aloe vera always was more soothing than any drugstore cream or ointment especially when you put it in the refrigerator first.

The place had a cellar and there was a monster-size aloe plant down there

Sure it works, but it smells so bad when you smear the goop all over yourself!
