West Edmonton Mall has a shooting range, too.

Where the employees walk around with holstered guns. That are empty.  :facepalm

Shooting is always fun. Would I be able to go since I don't have all the permits and crap?

    Not yet  :-[ Coming in 2012  http://www.calgaryzoo.org/content/view/772/879/

Darn oh well I will have to go next year. Looks like it will be a great exebit when it opens though. I just wonder if the Humbolt penguins will be able to handle a canadian winter.

It depends on what you want to do.  If you are going to stay in a hotel in one of the tourist towns, eat out, and party at night, it will get real expensive, real fast.  If you are going to camp in Banff National Park, cook your own food, and mainly hike and sight see, the expenses are much more reasonable, but be advised that National Parks are very expensive compared to provincial parks.  http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/ab/banff/visit/tarifs-fees_e.asp?park=1

Ok cool again thanks for all the information and links. I was thinking of mostly hiking and sight seeing. Staying up and partying are not really my things. Any idea how cold it is this time of year up their at night? That is a concern of mine.

They had to carry the rental gun and ammo to the range area for me, since I don't have whatever crappy permit you need to have there.

Then the guy started telling me about how to shoot a Glock as I punched a ragged hole in the target. I was drawing a crowd at one point.

West Edmonton Mall is not exactly the center of gun culture.

    Yep.  That's not a problem.

Darn oh well I will have to go next year. Looks like it will be a great exebit when it opens though. I just wonder if the Humbolt penguins will be able to handle a canadian winter.

They will likely be housed in an indoor facility when the weather is inclement.  And Calgary winters are highly variable.  Some are incredibly mild.  We've had Christmases with no snow on the ground, and then again, Christmases with a few feet of it.

Ok found the tempeture thing at night. Looks cold at night.

Depends on the time of year and how you are set up.  It will also be much colder in the mountains, and again, it's very dependant on the weather.  Right now it's pretty warm here - shorts and t-shirt weather - but that could change over night.  It's very possible to camp in the fall and winter here (I do it often when hunting) but the best time for camping is late spring and summer.

     :D

It's the law.  And bear in mind, they probably get a lot of mall ninjas and wannabes in there.

An ice rink and a shooting range. This sounds like the best mall ever. :clap

Until someone makes a shooting range on an ice rink, that is.  ;)
