Thoughts on a CoachGun ?
« on: October 24, 2008, 10:35:16 am »
I was thinking about getting my dad a coachgun for Christmas, anyone have any recommedations/ expirience?
I was thinking about getting a Stoeger, but I would like to get one with hammers and I dont think that they make hammer guns, I know Stoeger is owned by Benelli, are they made in the USA?
Thanks.

Rock Solid.  Not the most refined, but rock solid guns.  Cowboy action guys use them a lot and those guys blast throuh more rounds than a Marine Expeditionary Unit.  The guns stand up.
Get the Deluxe version... its a hundred bucks more, but you get a better looking two tone finish, better fit and finish, and you get screw out chokes.  That actually makes the Coachguns practical.  You can hunt with them... Pheasant, grouse, and such.
And they make for a fanstastic home defense gun.

I've wanted one of these for some time.

Larry Correia has CZ group buys from time to time (or did).  Maybe price one out the next time, eh?  ;)

The CZ guns are spendy... the Stoegers are much lighter on the wallet.

I've been humming and hawing over one of those Stoeger's for HD myself....... I figured I'd get as much EBR buying as possible done before the Electionocalypse, then start with the less scary classics.

    I've owned a Rossi Coach Gun since 1970, 12ga 3" with hammers.
Love it!   Used it as an ugly gun during LEO days in southern Nevada.
Fired twice during duty with instant attention getter (note, painful
if fired indoors!) and a few times with lesser loads for quail hunting.
This one pretty lookin, but I really have no idea how it would hold up
with extensive use.   I don't believe they are made any longer, but
see them once in a while in a used gun rack.   The mag loads (OO Buck)
were not as terrible on the shoulder as I expected.   Fun gun that is
fast handling.   Suspect the Stoger is build simular except I believe
it comes in 2 3/4 chambers only.

No, the coach guns are chambered for both 2 3/4 and 3" shells.

You might try the Upland version, most people find the balance better and it only adds a few inches.

Perfect motorcycle saddlebag gun. Wished I had one last summer in Wyoming, we had a big grizzly running around in camp at night.  Would have felt a lot better armed with a couple of  1 3/8 oz Brenneke slugs than a cylinder load of hard cast .357's.

We just got in a couple more of the Deluxe Coach Guns.  I was looking at one Saturday close up.  Just a neat gun all around.  I'd love to have one myself.

With the prices of ARs and BHO on the scene I may get a coach gun while they're cheap.  When anything with a magazine gets banned "two for sure" will sound good.

Do all these guns have interanal hammers?
