Received my complete 14" replacement parts over the weekend. It's awesome, or at least it would be if I could remove the old magazine tube from the receiver.

The reason this Raptor grip came about is because if you put THIS grip on a pistol-grip-only Mossberg (commonly available from the factory) or Remington (rarely available from the factory), and then swap out the barrel for a factory 14" barrel, it is NOT considered an NFA item as long as you don't conceal it on your person. I've got a 500 Tactical Cruiser with a Knoxx Breachers grip. I just measured it and from the "590" cap to the rear of the P-grip it's just under 27". Barrel would be 15". Currently, O/A length with the breaching muzzle is just under 30".

I know Mossberg made short barrels for the 5+1 590 before. I think they were 16" but not sure. Gotta look into it.

Compare my pic to FCSJedi's.

From the end cap to the edge of the receiver the length is 14.8" in my pic.

Now I know the barrel length goes about a half inch into the receiver. I know this by looking at his pic and the fact that when I measure my breacher barrel it is exactly 18" to the edge of the receiver but it's 18.5" according to Mossberg. Regardless, 14" from the edge of the receiver doesn't go past my mag cap.

I'm at a loss. How can this be?

I'm starting to think that new 6 shot Mossbergs have a shorter tube. 5+1 for 2.75" shells but only 4+1 for 3". Whereas mine holds 5+1 of either.

It's the only explanation that I can think of. Because clearly FSCJedi's mag tube is shorter than mine.

I put four rounds down range into a tree off my deck tonight. Dead limb removal. It doesn't feel bad at ALL! I think I actually feel more of the recoil in the fore-grip than I do out of the Raptor grip. I plan on doing much more shooting this Saturday when the siblings are up for family Christmas.

My replacement 590 tube for the 14" barrel is definitely shorter than the tube that came on my 18.5" barreled 500. I don't have any 3" shells to see if it holds the same number as the 2-3/4" shells.

Well, that it then. Shorter tube. Willing to bet yours is only 4+1 with 3" shells. No biggie. I still want to do the same as you. How much was your conversion (mag tube/barrel)?

I can't remember off the top of my head, but I do know the retail prices listed on the Shockwave site are correct. I didn't pay retail, though, being a Mossberg dealer.

Gotcha. Very cool. As long as the base model was a pistol-grip-only model "other firearm", and it complies with any state codes, sounds like you're good to go!
