I have the opportunity to pick up a 930 spx for about 650.

What do yall think, that a good price or no?

Yeah I'm gonna move him down, if he won't move I won't get it, I can snag a new one for 650 or so.

He came down 60 bucks and threw in 200 rounds of ammo, mostly birdshot but some buck and slug.

He said he'd had it for 2 years and never shot it even to test it. I dunno about that but its super clean for sure.

I've wanted one of these for a while so I went for it. Best deal or no its mine now.

Not  bad,   enjoy the new shotgun.

Planning on slipstreaming it later tonight then tomorrow afternoon go and run through about 1/2 of the stuff he gave me, plus doing some patterning with the buck and slugs I'm planning on keeping in it.

Range Day was successful.

It was raining, there were people on the range I like to use for this stuff so I was stuck on another range less useful but I made do and had fun.
All shots were taken at almost exactly 15 yards, verified with my Laser Range Finder.
Did some patterning with various buckshot loads with some interesting results.


Federal 3" FCW 00buck 12 pellet


Federal 2 3/4" No FCW 00 Buck 9 pellet


Remington 2 3/4" 00 Buck 9 pellet


Winchester/Olin 2 3/4" 00 Buck 9 pellet


Spartan 12ga 00 buck 9 pellet

I started with what I expected to be the best patterning load, the Federal Flight Control Wad 3" 12 pellet load.


4 1/4" spread, the shot-cup stuck in the the target stand lol. As expected FCW shells operate consistently and reliably. 

Next Federal standard non-flight control wad buck.

I was really surprised by this loading, and not in a good way. On no target I fired with it could I find more than 6 pellet holes I fired shots all the way out to 25 yards and never found more than 6 pellets and the wadding on the target. All I can figure is that either the spread is insane or that 3 of the pellets are being stuck inside the wadding. This was my most disappointing round tested just because I had higher expectations.

Remington was up next.

11" spread, this was more than I expected from my last series of tests.

Winchester/Olin

This was better than I expected from my last tests at 8 1/4"

And finally the "Spartan" ammo

On this shot it pattered out at 10 1/2" which surprised me coming in between the Remington and OLIN. So I fired a few more. The patterns moved between 10" and 18" kind of randomly.
But, this round would not reliably eject roughly 1 in 3 would not extract.

After some inspection I believe the problem lies with the rim of the cartridge:

Please pardon my crappy camera work, but if you look at the rim the Spartan shell has a much less defined rim than the Federal shell. I believe this is the factor leading to the FTEs.
I don't even know that I would qualify these rounds for range work they are wholly unreliable. I'm going to run the remaining 10 I have through my pumps to see if they work ok but I am not expecting them to.
 

You could try the Reduced Recoil tactical slugs.
Or...
Mount a Red Dot.
