Title: Mesa Tactical Urbino stock question

I am trying to reconnect with all of my non-favored guns, and that includes my Benelli M2. It is a quality shotgun, and I have no complaints outside of the absurd LOP.
Mesa Tactical makes a stock, the Urbino, that will bring the LOP down to where I want it. They make two models, one with and one without an adjustable cheek riser:
I have no plans to put a rail or RDS on the shotgun, so normally I would just assume that the model without the riser would be correct. What makes it difficult, is the 'drop' of the Urbino stocks is more severe than the factory OEM stock, so I don't know if maybe I need the riser model just to use the sights...
Does anyone have experience with these stocks? Any advice? I emailed Mesa Tactical at the beginning of the week, but they have not yet returned my message.

I handled one with the riser installed. It was on a Remington 870. It make it very difficult to use the stock sight. I think it's intended for running an optic. I'd get the short stock without the riser and see how you like it. You can add a strap-on cushy cheek pad if you need a little more height, and it'll be cheaper.
The excessive length of pull on almost every semiautomatic shotgun is the primary thing that drove me to the Beretta 1301, when it comes time to buy another shotgun. I don't care if a 14.5" LOP stock is great for wingshooting and sporting clays, it's too long for me.

I can see maybe if they put 14.5 on general purpose shotguns and those meant for hunting, but anything marketed as 'tactical' should be 13" or less.

Maybe. A typical sporting rifle stock is 13.25-13.75" in length of pull. Very nearly ever normal shotgun stock is in excess of 14". Gun to shooter fit is important the shotgun sports, but having a long stock on a bare bones Mossberg 500 isn't "fit".

True. A 14.5 LOP fits me very well on a double... IF I am going for the bladed field stance. Which I do not use for any other type of gun.
So basically yes, your point stands.

Ditto. My 1201 that I liked, I yanked all the extension chunks out of the stock. I love short shotgun stocks.

Thanks for the info. I was considering putting a rail and red dot sight on the top of the receiver, before I started this thread. Then I priced the Aimpoint T1... :shocked Yeah... I think I will stick with the irons.

Sarge, out of curiosity, does your son's stock have the standard or the 'limbsaver' recoil pad? What are your impressions of whichever it is?

Not sure Kaso. It has a rubber pad but not sure if its beefed up. I installed it but just can't recall. I'll have to look in the morning.

The Limbsaver brand is solid, and should say 'Limbsaver' on the butt. The standard model is ventilated, and does not. Honestly, I want whichever gives the most recoil reduction. The Benelli really does kick hard because of its operating system, in the same manner that HK-style rifles do.

Update: I found a lightly used Urbino stock on GB, and I snapped it up. It came with my preferred Limbsaver pad, and was the model with the cheek riser. As NC stated, the riser makes using the iron sights difficult, so I popped it off and put it aside. I would not have bought the riser model new, but since it was used, it does provide the option of using an optic down the road. You know, if I win the lottery (after I start 'playing') and can afford to shell out for an Aimpoint T1... :P
The LOP is perfect for me. If you are looking for a shotgun stock with a reduced LOP, give Mesa Tactical's Urbino line serious consideration. :thumbup1

So what is the actual LOP on the Urbino w/Limbsaver compared to the factory stock? I loved my M2 but the inertia drive just beat me up...I'm content now with the M4 even though it weighs a bit more with the ARGO gas system, but boy is it a smoooooth shooter.
