After I get done with buying and evilizing a Saiga and 10/22, I want to go back to shotguns.
I would get a Saiga 12, but I had a really neat thought:
I want to try and make a Remington M870. Wood military stocks, heat shield, mag extension, etc. It's just a really attractive gun to me.
So...
Thoughts? Suggestions?

I don't think a trombone needs all of those accessories. If you want to play dress up with it, that's your business. All an 870 really needs is an eighteen inch barrel, and practice, maybe the magazine extension.

I didn't say anything about need.
And there really isn't all that much. I like the way the M870 looks, and that's what it has on it (though I think the heatshield would be nonstandard).

Hey, this is still America. No one has to justify anything to me. I was just noting that, from a strictly social standpoint, the gee-gaws and doodads don't really help with the function. I've got some tricked-out firearms myself. It's that the older I get, the more I understand that the fluff is just that.

Yeah, I know.
There ain't much other than the mag extension, just wood furniture and the heatshield. I think everyone can appreciate wood on an 870. The bayo lug is because I think spiky things coming off the ends of my guns always are good.

You missed out man. There was a beautiful Wingmaster 870 in the exact conformation you want. 350 dollars at the local fun-shop here in CS.

I like putting a pistol grip on them, it seems to help me getting on target faster and controlling the gun. I have bought a few old, ratty used 870's that were mechanically sound but looked terrible, got them for $180 to $200 each. Then had the barrel cut to 20" to accommodate a mag extension for 8 rounds, put new composite stocks (with pistol grip) and forends on them. I think they are the perfect home defense gun.

I have to admit I did dress up a couple of them with heat shields and side saddles just because I thought they looked cool.

I bought a beat up 870 a while back and I'm gonna go with a pistol grip top folder if I can find a metal one. All of them I've found lately have plastic folding stocks that don't inspire confidence.

I was watching terminator 2 on satellite a while back and that top folding 12 gauge look awfully cool so I decided to put one together. It's mainly for fun since I prefer the Mossberg 590 for defensive work.

I transformed my 870 into the perfect platform for me by putting it back in the safe and buying a Benelli M2 Tactical. Now that thing knows how to rock!

That makes me think of a Thompson SMG.

I like "scattergun". It's got an old west sound to it.
