    wow that sucks. i would have such a hard time going back into the field after such an accident.

    Damn that sucks.  Sounds like they had done alot right except for staying more to the side instead of one man in front.  Even so if the distances quoted are true it is a freak accident.   

     
    Proof right there that the shotgun is alot deadlier at distance than most think. 
    Yes I live in California.  Please dont hold that against me.

     Try firing OOB on a dusty 600 yard rifle range sometime.

    Just bizarre, reading the reports of this and where they say the pellet entered and what it damaged, I have a feeling that if this guy wouldn't have been shot a meteor would have fallen on his truck on the way home. The odds are astronomical.

    Possibly.  Or nudged out of the shot column as the wad peeled away.  I've heard that a slight ding at the muzzle, almost imperceptible to the naked eye can cause weird things to happen to shotgun patterns.
