Web hosting recommendations wanted
« on: March 29, 2016, 01:21:00 pm »
My internet provider (Virgin media) is withdrawing its webspace on 28th April ( >:( ) so I need to move my site somewhere else that it will seem like no-one can find it ( :shrug ).
Virgin media are recommending GoDaddy and have a code for a free year, but if I'm going to have to pay after that I thought I'd ask if anyone has any recommendations. I create the pages on my own PC so just need somewhere to upload it to.
My website is back! It features over 100 pieces of fan fiction set in the Star Trek, Star Wars and Warhammer 40,000 universes.

Skip godaddy.  Depending on your proficiency I suggest TotalChoiceHosting.com or Linode.com.  I also hear that BlueHost.com is decent as well.

I don't know how much sysadmin experience you have.  It is not a huge challenge to set up a LAMP vm on Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services.  Register a domain and get some DNS and you are up and going for pretty cheap.  I run a VM on Azure and it only costs me a couple bucks a month.

Also, Google Sites is free.  It has limited options, but for flat HTML pages, it should meet your needs.
