I got my Blue Press magazine/catalog the other day and they had and advertisement from Dry-Fire (www.dry-fire.com) for a take down AR-15/M-16 kit.
It let you put a broke down rifle into a brief case.  I've seen a similar barrel change method somewhere before but the do it your self kit was more reasonalby priced.

This got me to thinking about take down rifles.  They are usually pretty expensive if they are in a center-fire caliber.  I divide them into two types those that use a detachable barrel and those that use a removable stock.  The utility is that when packaged they are easier to transport in vehicles and/or they disguise what they are.  A folding stock weapon can meet this objective but folding stocks can have drawbacks.  They often don't have a high enough comb to let you get a good cheek weld for iron sites, let alone optical sights.   So this got me to thinking about do it your self break down stocks.
For example a Saiga rifle in 7.62 X 39 mm.  While the separate pistol grip of the AK-47 military rifle is probably better for prone and bench fire I'v always been fond ot the standard stock that let's me get a good cheek weld and the chicken wing 90 degree support for stand up quick shooting.  So I've been trying to think of a way to make the standard Saiga stock quick on and off.  Anybody got any ideas??
