:facepalm  The DOD did it was called the OICW.  It was shelved because it was an overweight POS.

Yeah. Bad ideas do not need to be reanimated from the grave.

I don't THINK I'll ever have to face down routers in the streets.

I should hope not. Mobs of rogue woodworking tools would suck to repel.

Zombie rifle? Oh God. Is there even a way to combat that?

This would be the shuffling zombie rifle, not the high speed rage zombie rifle.

Damaged mags, inert or dummy rounds, and vienna sausages can all disable a self loading zombie rifle.  Use of proof loads may be effective in causing the zombie rifle's action to KB, but this is not a sure thing and should not be taken for granted.  There has been some discussion of the Yosemite method, or stuffing a carrot in the end of the barrel on the zombie rifle.  One of the few certain methods to disable a zombie rifle is to hand a pair of vise-grips to your cousin's friend and ask him to change the firing tube buffer block mount pin:  the zombie rifle quickly be dismantled and unrecognizable, never to function again.
