I did not know that.  Huh.

Honestly, other than for collector interest, and for the odd fellow who automatically covets anything that's unergonomic and Russian (looking your way, Khorne), the SVD isn't really all that.  A DPMS LR308 will net you better accuracy and is considerably easier to find.

Which is why I started getting interested in AR-10s.

SVD was one of my dream guns.  Then I realized what the SR-25 or the LMT MWS were essentially.  And they have 20rd mags to boot!

You could get a Remington R25 and it'd be just as light and just as accurate as an SVD, and easier to put a scope on to boot.  The SVD only did maybe 1.5 - 2 MOA generally.  Many box stock, lower-priced AR-pattern rifles can duplicate that, especially since you can get higher quality ammunition.

    THAT was a great day.
George is unique, he makes you shoot better than you thought that you could.
I had just put the sight system on it and shot it at 50 yards to get it on paper.
We were hitting steel at 400 yards with a 16.25" barreled .45-70.
Yes, it was a life sized buffalo... But Yea, 4 football fields with a rifle with iron sights and a rainbow trajectory.
Trust me, shooting that thing at 400yards is a whole different ball game than at 100 yards.
I can't wait to get legit training with him.

I saved up and finally got an AimPoint red dot sight. Its a Patrol Pro. I got it from MidwayUSA for $400 even and it got here in three days. Excellent optic. At 50 yds I can cover the three shot group with a quarter. At 25 yds it was practically the same hole. I moved back and set it at 50 yds. Love at first use. I was an iron sights only man until my eyes started changing with age. I must admit now that the speed and accuracy of this RDS cant be matched with irons.

It came already mounted in its ring. All you have to do is put it on the rail, and tighten the knob until it gives three clicks and you are set. It was that simple. It was more or less centered but needed a bit of fine tuning. My Magpul BUS are set at 25/300 and co-witness nicely

I dig the AimPoint PRO. I added one to my SIG 556 recently and have been very pleased with it. I had used a cheap red dot for hunting before, but this is my first good quality one. To say there is a noticeable difference would be a *slight* understatement.

One of my nephews bought a completed 20" HBAR upper and stripped lower from Palmetto Armory the week before Newtown. The upper and lower are top quality. We assembled it today at the PD and had a good talk about current events while we did. It was a memorable afternoon. He is one kid that renews my faith in the upcoming generation. My brother has taught him well.

He still has to Barbie Doll it up a bit with a MagPul forearm and rail with a light. He bought an ALG Defense trigger to put in it that was as smooth as glass. He also bought a nickel boron BCG and a flip up rear sight (can't recall the makes). His next purchase is an ACOG.

Here is a photo of my new Magnum Research MLR22AT .22 rifle with the Graphite wrapped stainless steel barrel.  This is based on a Ruger 10/22 action, so it uses 10/22 magazines and will accept aftermarket trigger groups.  It weighs about 4.5 pounds without a scope.
I have mounted a Nikon P-22 2-7 power scope that is ballistically matched to .22LR ammo.
I am looking forward to taking it to the range.

Regarding my new Magnum Research MLR22AT rifle.

I got to the range but found that I had mounted the scope incorrectly.  After rotating it 90 degrees and sighting it in I did some practicing with it.  From the start I have had absolutly no feeding problems at all using Remington bulk, Winchester bulk, and CCI Mini Mags.  Here is a target from 25 yards standing with an improvised rest.  The thing is a real tack driver.  I did have the takedown screw come loose and will have to figure a way to secure it better.

I finally got my IDF inspired carbine put together.

When the panic buying hit I took stock of all the AR parts I've collected over the years and realized I was a LPK and BCG away from a complete rifle. I wanted to use a lightweight 16" barrel, but the old Bushmaster 11.5" with permanent attached flash hider was all I had so I went with it. Turned out to be a nice shooter. The rifle is quite reliable with a H buffer and it's more accurate than I am. All in all, it's not bad for about $600 worth of parts.  :thumbup1
