Got my personal sniper rifle out of mothballs and zeroed for quals tomorrow. I like using my own rather than the PD's because I know exactly what's been through it and I know its every quirk, etc.

42 deg F, 2-4mph wind left to right, 100 yds. Federal Match 168gr BTHP. Remington 700VS with Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm with a USMC style mil dot reticle. All shots fired at 10x.

The only things I'd change are the rings. I want some Leupold Mk4 tactical rings and a rail base, however the commercial Leupold rings have always worked like a charm. Other than that I'm golden.

That is some nice shooting. One thing I lack is a good precesion rifle and the training to make the most of it.

    Nice groups.

I'd like to know what alchemy, dark magic, or sacrifice Federal uses that allows them to make ammo that good, in that quantity, at that price.

Thank you. Today at training I was issued a DPMS (may their bits and pieces fall off) LR-308. Photobucket is down for site maintenance till midnight so I can't post a photo of it. My spotter zeroed his within 6 rounds and said its a tack driver. I will try mine in the AM before quals.

    Me too.

I've been shooting the American Eagle brand 308 and 357 magnum for years. It may be dirty as a whore's panties but it is damned consistent in velocity and accuracy.

DLMS LR-308 with a Leupold Mark 4 Long Range Tactical M3 mildly scope.  I haven't shot if yet but the last guy who shot it could never get it zeroed.. I suspected the scope was canted and sure enough it was. I trued it up and am eager to try it out tomorrow.

The 158gr AE .357 is amazingly good for "budget" ammo.

It really isn't hard to show up DPMS.  However, some do it better than others.

I agree. It would look great on a guitar too.

Here's what I shoot when I want an AR, but don't want to spend the $$ on ammo and be able to pull the trigger a lot.

It's a spikes tactical st-22. I have rail covers and all my optics are QD so I can put my T1 on this or my TR24 accupoint. It's the rifle I shoot the most. It's paid for itself at least 10 times over with ammo cost savings. Accurate enough to bust up clay pigeons off hand at 100 yards.

As of today I am rocking a Mosin M38. The two roundish marks right above the magazine are fingerprints where someone at the factory touched it before the shellac was dry. Seems the Soviets were in a bit of a hurry to get these to the front back in '43.

Chances are that was from the refurb process.  Especially if you find a stamp of a box with a diagonal mark through it.

That's the Ukrainan arsenal refurb mark.
