Title: Rifle Pictures!
Post by: Nightcrawler on July 27, 2012, 03:44:13 pm
How's about we just get a nice picture thread going?  Post your favorite rifles.  Battle rifles, fighting rifles, serious rifles, range toys, whatever you consider them.

I'll start with my Broadsword.  Like me, it is a very minor internet celebrity.  Here's a high-res picture Oleg Volk took.

Gundoc and I got to go on a crazy Vegas adventure to make that happen, by the by.  Also, that's not me in the picture, though he is wearing my body armor, my chest rig, and is holding my rifle.

Here's another one:

Your turn.

Hey!  I'm not the only guy with a set of Desert Tiger Stripe.  What kind of load bearing gear is that?

Hey!  I'm not the only guy with a set of Desert Tiger Stripe.  What kind of load bearing gear is that?

Nope, not the only one. I really like the desert tiger strip. I like the older green tiger stripe as well. That is what I would probably use for up in the mountains. Multi cam seems to be a nice combination for in between which is why I used it on most of this load bearing gear.

Most of it is stuff I have accumulated from tactical tailor over the years. This is their web site, http://www.tacticaltailor.com/index.aspx (http://www.tacticaltailor.com/index.aspx)

I really have nothing but good things to say about them. They tend to make good products in the USA to boot, at a reasonable price I think. At least when you compare it to some other things made in the USA. The quality seems to be good to me. My armour carrier is finally starting to wear out after many years of hard use. Other than that everything has been good. Given the amount of use from my armour though I think it has held up well. Their gear doesn't feel quite as heavy duty as some other pieces of gear I have bought but they also don't seem to be as over engineered either. I like simple, simple is good in my book.

This is what I basically have,
(http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj102/Penguin_James/DSC_0021.jpg)
My main inspiration for this was a set of ALICE gear the Tire Iron showed me a long time ago. I though that was about the most comfortable set up I had ever seen. Well after lots of tries to come up with something as comfortable I more or less failed and salvaged what I could into this project. Kind of same idea, just with the molle setup instead. I just couldn’t get a good pair of suspenders for an ALICE set up.

The basis of my load out is their MAV Body 2 Piece
http://www.tacticaltailor.com/vests-armor/modular/mav-body-2-piece (http://www.tacticaltailor.com/vests-armor/modular/mav-body-2-piece)
I like it, it is and has been a good piece of kit. It has the molle webbing all over it to put what ever pouches you want on it where you want. There really isn't much to it. Just enough room to mount some pouches at or just above waist level. It does have a built in pocket for maps papers or something else thin.
While that doesn't give you as much space as say a load bearing vest it is a bit lighter and more importantly covers less of your body allowing better air flow so you don't get so hot. To me that was important. It is pretty adjustable for sizes. It also opens on the front with two fastex buckles. This makes it fast and easy to get on and off which I like.

The next thing I did was I put their X Harness on it.
http://www.tacticaltailor.com/vests-armor/modular/x-harness (http://www.tacticaltailor.com/vests-armor/modular/x-harness)
That would be the top part I have with the shoulder straps.
If I remember right for some reason they don't recommend or say you can't put a hydration bladder on the back like I did but, I did it any ways and it works. Perhaps I am remembering that wrong I've had it for quite some time. This goes very well with their two piece MAV. Their isn't much padding to it, there is some though. I find it comfortable and don't care for bulky padding anyways. The black stuff is a kind of mesh. I guess the theory is it helps keep you cooler. I don't know how true that is but I find it a comfortable piece of gear. The front lower part of the straps have a couple of molle loops.
I suppose you could mount a small pouch there if you wanted to. I just run a strap around on the left side to keep my camel back hose from flapping around. It also makes a good place to clip the speaker mike for my radio. The thing I like compared to most other similar pieces of gear or load bearing suspenders is there isn't a stupid D ring and or buckles right there. I don't know who designs these things but I don't want a piece of bulky metal right about where the but stock for my rifle goes when I am shooting. I HATE having all kinds of bulk in the shoulders that interfere with were I put my long gun.

The next thing I did was put a pouch for my camel back on the back. I currently have Tactical tailor's Hydration Carrier Modular.
http://www.tacticaltailor.com/pouches/hydration/hydration-carrier-modular (http://www.tacticaltailor.com/pouches/hydration/hydration-carrier-modular)
Again nothing fancy. Just a pouch that will hold up to a 3 litre camel back. The top closes with velcro. It has more molle webbing to attach even more crap if you are so inclined. If it was me I would ditch the webbing to save just a little more weight. Perhaps one day when I am so inclined I will remove it. In the mean time I guess it can't hurt to have it there. It attaches using their malice clips. It is simple and works. I have others that are just about the same thing but this is the one I have on at the moment.

That is the basic set up other than that it is just a matter of putting pouches on and deciding where you want them.

I have 3 rifle mag pouches. Again I got them from tactical tailor. I have their Fight Light 7.62 Double Mag Pouch on there at the moment.
http://www.tacticaltailor.com/fightlight/fight-light-7-62-double-mag-pouch (http://www.tacticaltailor.com/fightlight/fight-light-7-62-double-mag-pouch)
Again nothing fancy, they hold two L1A1 or M-14 mags. They have a velcro closure. Which in my opinion isn't the longest lasting stuff. I figured it would be easy enough to just replace the pouches when that becomes a problem. I don't like the fact that it can be noisy either, how ever I figured if you are changing mags you have probably just made a lot of noise any ways. The benefit that I though out weighed the negatives was you can just press down on the lid quick to get it to close and keep your other mag from falling out. I didn't want to lose that other mag and I didn't want to take the time of trying to redo a fastex buckle in the middle of a stressful mag change. So velcro it is for now. The pouch also has this bungie thing, I guess to keep the mags for rattling around. I to be honest haven't really figured out what the deal with it is. It hasn't been annoying yet so I have left it as is, in hopes I figure out its benefits later on. There are two holes in the bottom corners or the pouch next to the body to let water out. I think I would have preferred the old fashioned drain hole in the middle but oh well not that big of a deal to me.

I have tried many other mag pouches and I think these are the best ones I have tried so far. Not perfect but good.

Next pouch would be my pistol mag pouch.
It holds two 1911 mags. I don't like it a whole lot to be honest. I got it from tactical tailor again.
http://www.tacticaltailor.com/pouches/ammo/knife-pouch (http://www.tacticaltailor.com/pouches/ammo/knife-pouch)
They call it a knife pouch. Personally I don't have a knife other than my Swiss army knife that fits in there well. It doesn't fit my sure fire either. I use the pouch because it was handy and a molle pouch. I don't have good 1911 pouch that mounts on molle gear that isn’t bulky. Unfortunately with this gear I can't really reach my galco 1911 mag pouch on my belt if I was to wear this. That means it seemed like a good idea to mount a pouch for spare pistol mags on my gear some where. I would like a open top pistol mag holder that securely holds my pistol mags like my galco holder does. The problem with this as I see it, is once you take the first mag out the other one is all kinds of lose and just begging to jump out and get lost. The velcro lid helps with that some what but I am still not happy with the set up. I have some of these on my armour though so I am used to it now. I’m looking for something better but this will do in the mean time. For what it is worth the lid is adjustable and or removable for different sized things.

Next would be the radio pouch. Yet again I bought it from tactical tailor. It is their Radio Pouch Small
http://www.tacticaltailor.com/pouches/radio/radio-pouch-small (http://www.tacticaltailor.com/pouches/radio/radio-pouch-small)
Yeah it holds a radio. Nothing exciting here. It does adjust for different sizes of radio. I would have preferred something that covers the whole radio but, with the top open you can operate the controls with out having to take the radio out of the pouch. It also lets me put the speaker mike on as well. I use the same model pouch on my armour so I am used to it. It works and I guess you go with what you got.

Next pouch would be a misc pouch. This one is from spec op. It is their Op-Order Logistics Pouch
http://www.specopsbrand.com/tactical-gear/pouches/op-order-logistics-pouch.html (http://www.specopsbrand.com/tactical-gear/pouches/op-order-logistics-pouch.html)
It is the tan one next to the blow out pouch. I just shove all the miscellaneous things in their that I would want to have on me but wouldn’t be in a hurry to get out. I usually put my keys and wallet in their when I am out training. I also shove my Swiss army knife in there. I also like to keep a pair of gloves in their and some ear protection and a little L1A1 tool. My compass also generally goes in here. It has molle webbing on the out side if you are inclined to mount even more crap on top of it. It opens with two zippers that run about 3/4 or the way around it, so you can open it pretty much all the way to get what is in their with out having to fumble though every thing. Another nice feature is the inside is bright yellow so the contents stick out, real helpful in the dark.
It also has nice dividers to keep stuff organized and plenty of slots for pens. It also has a nice lanyard built in that I typically attach my keys to so I don't lose them. It is a good pouch for holding misc stuff. It feels sturdier than the Tactical Taylor stuff. Their stuff also tends to cost more and be more over engineered in my opinion. It is made in the US though last time I checked. Note for later get a multi cam one to match all the rest of my crap. At the time I got this I don't think they had them in multi cam.

The last pouch would be my blow out pouch. It is the ATS Medical Pouch-small
http://www.atstacticalgear.com/cgi/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=ST-5321 (http://www.atstacticalgear.com/cgi/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=ST-5321)
To me it seems like a well thought out pouch, though thankfully I haven't had to put that to the test yet. What I like about this one is the pouch is mounted to a velcro panel so you can push the fastex buckle release then grasp the red pull cord that lets you know it is a medic pouch and tear it off. To me this seems like a much better idea than trying to awkwardly get at you gear in a hurry to help some one or take off your second line gear so you can get to it easily in what may still very well be a hot battle field. Or worse you've been shoot and now people are rolling you all around in the dirt so they can get to your pouch. As a note though I have it mounted up side down. It you mount it right side up you can't see the red pull handle very well because it hide under that flap where the buckle is. My thinking was I wanted the red to show so every one would know that is the blow out pouch incase something happened to me. On the other hand that red does make a nice stand out reference to shoot at... Well if I change my mind I can mount it right side up again. On that flap though is a stip of velcro so if you have a blood type patch or what ever you could put it their. On a side note where does one go to figure out what blood type they are? So any ways when it comes time you use, you undo the buckle.
Grasp the red handle and pull.
You would now have the pouch in your hand and can set it where ever you need to. It opens up with a couple of zippers that run most the length of the pouch so you can open it up all the way to easily get to everything in the pouch.
It has some loops in their to keep stuff from flying all over when you open it up. In there I have the quick clot combat gauze. Quick clot seems like a really good thing to have so that is how I went about it. I also have, I think it is an, Israeli pressure bandage in there. On of those cutting hook things so you can cut clothing away to get to a wound with out having to worry about anciently poking the victim at the same time. A ratchet I rigged up to use as a tourniquet. I have to thank PrvtPyle for that one, brilliant idea and easy to use in a hurry. I also have some kurlex in there. I need to add some of those thin gloves. Overall I think this is a good pouch. I have a large pouch along the same lines that in many ways I like better. It was made by the same company though I don't think they make it anymore. I think it was a but nice with velcro opening instead of zipper ones. The problem was I think it was a bit to large. This one I think is just a bit to small. Something right between the two would be great.

On my first line gear it is a simple old school pistol belt. I could use a much better pistol belt. I have gone though many and this WW2 replica seems to be the best one I have had. I don’t remember where I got it though.

On it I have an replica M1916 calvary holster for my 1911. It think it is a great holster. If I remember right I got it from pacific canvas and leather.
http://pacificcanvasandleather.com/holsters/pcl_13_r.htm (http://pacificcanvasandleather.com/holsters/pcl_13_r.htm)
I can't say for sure I have had it for so long. I have another one that was made by another company but it wasn't nearly as good. It was a bit to small and never really broke in. The only thing I can think of to change would be replace the shiny brass parts with something that isn't shiny. I would also like it if it mounted on a regular belt instead of the old school metal things that go in holes on your pistol belt.

The other thing I have on there is a mag dump pouch. This one is made by eagle industries. It is their SAS mag dump pouch.
http://www.eagleindustries.com/product.php?productid=508&cat=84&page=1 (http://www.eagleindustries.com/product.php?productid=508&cat=84&page=1)
I like it. I have had it for a long time and haven’t felt the need to get something else. The drop down part that goes between the belt and the pouch could use some improvement though. The corners can sometimes poke you. You don't have to use that though you can also mount it a different way.

Well hope this helps you.

Thanks for the write up!

I'm still dicking around with my gear.  I had a BCS NIJ carrier that holds soft armor (Paraclete concealment cut stuff I got cheap) and plates.  The plates are 11x14 and may be too big.  The armor is size large but may be too small.  Go figure.  Anyway, back in 2009 I bought a Mesa Vest, which is basically a South African style vest, but in MOLLE.  I figured I would wear it with or without the armor.

I went through a Tactical Tailor plate carrier that I didn't like, sold it.  While I was deployed I bought a PIG plate carrier.  I've adjusted it but I'm not sure about it.  I don't like having all that bulk right in the middle of my belly, and I honestly think that having armor and gear separate makes more sense for civilian purposes.

The good news is I can sell the PIG and not lose much money on it.  It's a hot item right now.

The Mesa vest connects to a pistol belt with some straps.  I have an old 2" OD green gun belt I've used before.  I'm going to try lashing it to the vest, tight, right below the body armor, see if that locks everything in.  Some guys just wrap a gun belt around them and call it good.  Without keepers, suspenders, or something holding it in place, though, I think it'll flop and sag.  Or worse, pull up when you're trying to draw (mainly applies to Kydex holsters, which I intend to use).  So we'll see how that works out.

I was actually looking at the two-piece MAV as well.  Thank you for the write up and the pics.  Any pictures of it on you, so I can see how it sits?

If you need a new armor carrier, look up Beez Combat Systems.  They're made right here in Utah and the quality is top notch.

No problem on the pictures and the write up. I edited it, it looked like I double posted in while trying to spell check it. :facepalm

I will try to post some more pictures with me wearing it. That may be harder since it is hard to take pictures of yourself.

Thanks for the link.

I am looking for a new armour carrier that isn't bulky can carry soft armour and is molle. It would also be a bonus if they could carry rifle plates as well. I would like it in Khaki but, no one seems to makes stuff in Khaki. It looks like but these guys do though! :thumbup1 At first glance this looks like it may very well be exactly what I am looking for. http://www.beezcombatsystems.com/BCS-B-BALCS-Molle-BCS-B-MOLLE.htm (http://www.beezcombatsystems.com/BCS-B-BALCS-Molle-BCS-B-MOLLE.htm)

The BALCS armor carriers are for BALCS/SPEAR cut armor, which is a specific thing.  If you have that, great.  If you have just a regular concealable vest, get the NIJ carrier.

If you want one in MOLLE, just email them and ask.  I had them make a custom vest carrier for me.  I ended up trading it to Gundoc because it was too big, but they'll do just about anything you want.  All of their carriers are designed to hold 10x12 (commercial/LE standard) or 11x14 (USGI E-SAPI X-Large) plates.  They come in a mess of colors, including Multicam, Coyote, ATACS, whatever.

Cool I may have to e-mail them and ask. I want khaki because it is the colour of our uniform shirts at work. So I can probably get away with it. Sure beats black that bakes in the heat. It may piss the boss off because it isn't black like every one else’s vest but, I am pretty sure if I passed out from heat exhaustion and didn't get the route done he would be pissed as well.

How'd you do at the 500m?

Post by: FMJ on July 28, 2012, 08:07:28 pm
I thought I hit 4/10 rams, but the official score spreadsheet says I actually hit 2/10.  :hide
It was iron sights, what can I say.  Also, I had never shot past 200yd before that.  In a way, I'm still surprised I hit anything at 550yds.

I placed middle of the pack (for my first time in a silhouette match) in the M-1 category.

Haven't been on here in forever.  I picked up my very first rifle last winter.  A Smith and Wesson M&P 15.  Holy crap I love it.  First thing I did was take it up to my cabin in Bear Lake and throw it around in the snow and whatnot.  I haven't had a single hiccup with this.

I like that one. What kind of front sight do you have on it? What is that that is sitting over the ejection port? I'm guessing a scope mount of some sort. How well does the can work and how does it attach? Sorry for the 50 questions, but it looks cool and I have thought about putting a can and a scope on mine from time to time.

FS2000 with Aimpoint CS (Swedish AK5 variant) FN TriRail and Tapco VFG.

Both rifles have TLR1's on board, the little thing atop the Aimpoint is a Lasermax UNI. I really just put it there so I wouldn't lose it. The Aimpoint gives me a lower 1/3 cowitness and the Optisan I get a full cowitness with BUIS.

Penguin, I really like your gear setup.  I'm interested in the two piece MAV myself now.  For a couple of reasons.

-I thought about going to a MOLLE/war/battle/whatever, hooyah belt and attaching the holster to that.  The problem with this is incompatibility with backpacks.  Any serious outdoor backpack has a waist strap, and in my experience you're advised to make use of it.  Having a bunch of gear and pouches and holsters around your belly makes this problematic.

-I want to have my gear separate from my armor, so I can switch kit for different weapon systems.

-The two piece MAV doesn't have anything right on your belly, which will help shooting from the prone.

-It can hold 6-8 .308 magazine pouches, a medical kit, and reloads for the sidearm.  That's about all you need, really.  Since it doesn't have anything in the middle or on the chest (no two-piece MAV bib), my sidearm reload pouch is going to have to go to the left side, next to the rifle mag pouches.  A little farther back than I prefer but no big deal.  I think my custom, Retro Tactical 6x stacked speedloader pouch will fit back there.  I can rig up a drop leg for the gun, easy enough, to get it out of the way of pack waist straps.

Okay not a rifle but I use it like one with slugs as my primary round and a few Federal Flight Control 00 Buck along for the ride on the side saddle. This is my Go To home defense weapon. I can sling the bandoleer across the chest bandido-style but with seven in the tube, six on the side saddle and five on the buttstock carrier, I should have enough on or in the blaster to grab and go.

It has the stock Remington rifle sights and I agree with George in the Crusader shotgun video when he extols the open rifle sights on the 870.

I am a shotgun guy first and foremost and, though I have an issued AR at work, I carry the issued 870 up front as my work Go To long gun.

I need to replace the light set up with an LED bulb. I think SureFire makes a retro fit LED for this forearm...Harm, what say you? Do they?

My only other mod will be one of those Speedfeed stocks like on the Crusader shotguns or maybe an M4 collapsible.

I bought this baby back in 1992 when I worked at Hendersonville PD. HPD only had armory issued High Standards (good guns but soooooo old and beat to hell) that we checked in and out daily. I carried this 870 for four years until I was hired by Cherokee.

Ive always had brass up on the side saddle because I roll the weapon to the left so the ejection port faces up and I drop it in. Ive done the chamber reload from underneath before but I just like the other way better. I pull the round up out of the side saddle and slap it in then I reload the mag tube as I get to it. Ive reloaded to the chamber three times in a row on combat course shoots to no ill effect.

Brass points up on the buttstock carrier to keep it from falling out as easily.

The AR is a BCM 16 inch carbine upper on a Grizzly LAR lower. I just stuffed a CMC trigger in it and love the thing! Awesome piece of hardware. The SIG is their 556 patrol with an aimpoint comp ML-3 on it. The SCAR is just plain cool - I have yet to let anyone run it who isnt grinning like a kid in a candy store when they are done.

The top one is a Ruger PC-9, no longer in production, complete with ridiculous unreliable high cap magazine. The AK is a pre-89 import ban polytech underfolder, which means its is 100% chinese and legal (gotta love the spike bayonet). I paid a small fortune for it about the same time komerade klinton was signing his idiotic assault weapons ban. The mini-14 is a factory mid 80's side folder (admit it, you now have the A-team theme song stuck in your head- sorry.....). Complete with Ruger factory high cap, good old Bill is probably rolling over in his grave knowing a simple unworthy civilian owns it. The Uzi on the bottom is one of the last vector semi's built on an IMI reciever. They ran out right after I got this one. Bought it from from the factory since it is only a few miles from where I live.  Not very reliable even after going back to them for repairs, but it is fun to shoot.

The guy who sold me the mini-14 side folder said it came out of California. There was a point in time where you guys could own this stuff. Its very sad because California is a beautiful state. My wife has family there, and we seem to end up at Disneyland at least every other year. I know there are a lot of good people there- its a shame you don't outnumber the anti-freedom bunch who seem to run the show. Its weird, whenever I'm there I always feel naked, I'm so used to having a kimber tucked into an SOB rig. Helps me to not take things for granted. Hope you guys can take some of it (or all of it) back someday FMJ.

My issued Colt AR-15A3. I've had it 12 years now. Still runs great but I prefer my shotgun so it rides in a case in the cargo area. As discussed in Nightcrawler's Gear Snobbery post, I have modified accumulated gear here too. I have a rigged but secure ACU pattern mag pouch off an old SWAT vest as my stock mag carrier

Issued 870 with 14" barrel. PD badge engraved on receiver. Recoil reducing Knoxx stock with additional side saddle.
I would have prefered the 18" barrel so we could have more mag capacity but once again our Admin pukes got gee whizzed by a slick salesman. Otherwise it runs great but since its a 14" model, it can't be given as a presentation gift upon retirement, more's the pity. Rust looking dot on Wilson Combat rear sight is orange nailpolish to mark position in case any one f's with it. Don't ask but sight fluffing has happened more than once around here.
Front sights on all my weapons are bright orange. See the flash of orange, BOOM!.

4 round side saddle so serial number can be exposed.

Or does it have to stay stock for the beany counters?

Hey, my 500A has some serious mods that can be done to it.
Just thought since an 870 is so widely used and loved as well....made sense to me.
Just keep the parts to bring it back to stock when you turn it in.

My rebarreled K-98 Mauser with Timney target trigger.  This was brought back from the war by the uncle of the old fellow who built it.  It's now chambered in .30-06  It's shot under MOA at 100 yards with 150 grain bullets (and with my eyes, I can guarantee it's all the gun, not me), and I'm now working 165 grain loads.  Should shoot even tighter.

Also, my Mannlicher stocked .30 Carbine.  And, no, I didn't butcher up an original.  Someone else did and I ended up with it.  It does get lots of comments though.

You can change the barrel & mag tube as long as it isn't permanent and can readily be switched back.  It can be given away once it's taken off the NFA registry with of course the civilian legal requirements installed.

That is sweet, Sarge!
Hope someday the Mossberg 500A I own can look as intimidating.
Speaking of barrels. Can't you just swap out the barrel and add a tube extension and spring?
Or does it have to stay stock for the beany counters?

Thanks man. Something to be said for steel and wood. The stock on the AK was that pale plywood and my boss suggested we stain it. He said red fits an AK so we tried to get the stock a reddish brown. I like the way it turned out actually.

Mine was part of a run done up by Crusader Weaponry, actually, so it's also got a permanent Slipstream treatment. I can't hit the broad side of a barn with it, but that's my fault (or some combination of my fault and the less than superb sights), and it's a real gas to shoot.  :thumbup1

Yeah they used sterlings as the base for the storm tropper blasters in star wars. Fold the stock, throw on some wind shild wiper blades on the front, rig a scope on their (German of some sort If I remember) cut the magazine down to size and, add some counter thing on their and tada! Storm Trooper E-11 blaster. They used a lot of military surplus stuff as props and such. They rigged up an MG-34 as one of the other storm tropper guns. Han Solo's blaster is bascily the old C-96 mauser broom handle pistol with a scope. The old East German military boots were used all over the place. Some where around here I have a pair of those. Those are the ones that come to mind off the top of my head. I am sure there are plenty of others, at least on the orginal movies.

Yes I have watched star wars way to many times.

This is my Rem700 scratch build that I made this past spring from the action up.  I started with a short action Rem700 receiver with the bolt.  I picked up a Navy contract Shilen 26" heavy barrel that came off a sniper rifle that was converted to 300 WinMag and had only around 250 or so rounds through it.  I also aquired a HS Precision stock on the cheap and then a Timney trigger, a DBM bottom metal kit that uses AICS magazines and finally topped with a 20 MOA base & a SWFA Super Sniper 16x40 scope.  I trued the action to the barrel, bedded & inletted the barrel channel and bottom metal part of the stock.  She went together really easily and I was really surprised on how disgustingly accurate she was the first range trip I took her out on.  Easily .5 MOA with my handloads (Fed 7 PPU brass, Fed LR BR primer, 40.5gr IMR 3031 & 168gr Hornady A-Max projectile) and the scope really surprised me with the clarity and accuracy of the turrets.

My latest aquisition is a 1976 vintage Colt SP1 rifle in excellent to like-new condition.  She even came with 2-20rd Colt magazines stamped .223 which is period correct.  I'm thinking of getting a non-trapdoor stock & 3 prong FH for that early Vietnam look.  I already have an original Colt full chromed bolt & carrier group that is completely slick (no forward assist serrations) and I just might get a few NoDak Spud waffle magazine bodies when money permits.  I'm a sucker for the classic AR15 variants.  I also built a 607 replica if anyone is interested in seeing that.

Got my personal sniper rifle out of mothballs and zeroed for quals tomorrow. I like using my own rather than the PD's because I know exactly what's been through it and I know its every quirk, etc.

42 deg F, 2-4mph wind left to right, 100 yds. Federal Match 168gr BTHP. Remington 700VS with Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm with a USMC style mil dot reticle. All shots fired at 10x.

The only things I'd change are the rings. I want some Leupold Mk4 tactical rings and a rail base, however the commercial Leupold rings have always worked like a charm. Other than that I'm golden.

That is some nice shooting. One thing I lack is a good precesion rifle and the training to make the most of it.

Nice groups.

I'd like to know what alchemy, dark magic, or sacrifice Federal uses that allows them to make ammo that good, in that quantity, at that price.

Thank you. Today at training I was issued a DPMS (may their bits and pieces fall off) LR-308. Photobucket is down for site maintenance till midnight so I can't post a photo of it. My spotter zeroed his within 6 rounds and said its a tack driver. I will try mine in the AM before quals.

Me too.

I've been shooting the American Eagle brand 308 and 357 magnum for years. It may be dirty as a whore's panties but it is damned consistent in velocity and accuracy.

DLMS LR-308 with a Leupold Mark 4 Long Range Tactical M3 mildly scope.  I haven't shot if yet but the last guy who shot it could never get it zeroed.. I suspected the scope was canted and sure enough it was. I trued it up and am eager to try it out tomorrow.

The 158gr AE .357 is amazingly good for "budget" ammo.

I agree. It would look great on a guitar too.

Here's what I shoot when I want an AR, but don't want to spend the $$ on ammo and be able to pull the trigger a lot.

It's a spikes tactical st-22. I have rail covers and all my optics are QD so I can put my T1 on this or my TR24 accupoint. It's the rifle I shoot the most. It's paid for itself at least 10 times over with ammo cost savings. Accurate enough to bust up clay pigeons off hand at 100 yards.

As of today I am rocking a Mosin M38. The two roundish marks right above the magazine are fingerprints where someone at the factory touched it before the shellac was dry. Seems the Soviets were in a bit of a hurry to get these to the front back in '43.

Chances are that was from the refurb process.  Especially if you find a stamp of a box with a diagonal mark through it.

That's the Ukrainan arsenal refurb mark.

I barely know squat!

It just happens that I learned about Mosins becuase those were my main rifles for a while.

Depending on how good your bore and crown is, you may have a shooter.  The 91/59s are essentially M-38s and they're regarded as some of the more accurate Soviet rifles (but they're also in pretty darn good shape since they never went to war).

The low rail is from Stormwerkz, the 3.5 MOA MRDS is from Insight, the QR mount is from American Defense, the 30 round mag is from TangoDown, the 50 round drum mag is from XS-Products and the sling is from Magpul. I had the original flash hider replaced with a DC Vortex from SEI.

It isn't, especially when you shoot hotter loads.  18.5" barrel makes for some muzzle blast -- but that's a blast, too.

I tend to forget these days that all my rifles aren't black and plastic.
This one was accidental. I spent years reading about Africa and wanted to hunt there for quite a while. The last of saint JMB's lever guns and TR's big medicine for lions, the winchester 95 in .405,  always gave me the warm fuzzies whenever I saw one or read about it. Never considered buying one, I just always liked them.

For quite a while now, I have had to go get whats left of my stomach scoped every three years or so. They have some new drugs now they give you to knock you for a loop before they shove a camera down your throat that wear off very quickly when they are done, but back in the day they just jacked you up on demerol and versed and then you would spend the rest of the day stoned out of your tree and dumber than a sack of hammers. This time the doc had me go up the the U of U (University of Utah) in Salt Lake to get the scope. On the way home I somehow managed to talk Momma into stopping by Gallensens in down town SLC to look around. Mistake number one. So Im drooling on the floor probably making a fool of myself when she makes mistake number two (the big one) and points to this beauty prominently displayed on the top of their display case that I had somehow failed to notice in my somewhat less than coherent state.
I don't remember filling out the paper work, and to this day have no idea how much I payed or how I managed to charm momma into giving me the thumbs up on this one, but Im glad I did. It would have never happened had I not been in a drug induce semi-coma, so I guess there is something to be said for modern chemistry and its after effects.

Please forgive my crappy camera work.

Here's the M1A in her current configuration. I spent a few hours this weekend swapping out the front sight, gas lock and replacing the GI bolt hold-open with an SEI. I don't think I have ever done anything in my life that was more frustrating but ultimately exhilerating than to get that roll pin pushed out enough to swap out the bolt catches. Now magazine changes are just a little faster and a little smoother. Well worth the effort and frustration. So, here she is:

I went with the M1A because I have always loved the platform and not for any other reason. There are so many reasons to go with an AR-10 over the M1A or any other M14 clone. I just chose to go with the one I love because I'm just a sentimental kind of guy.

Yeah the dragnov is better, but I don't get why they are $10,000 here in the states the Russians made millions of them just like any other of their rifles but I guess it's because of it being the trademark tool of an assassin in movies.

Actual SVDs cost a lot of money because they haven't been imported in something like 20 years.  They're specifically banned from import from Russia, even though other Russian autoloading rifles that operate essentially the same are legal.  A real SVD is a collector's item.

Post by: JesseL on December 16, 2012, 11:46:44 pm
The big problem with importing SVDs is that they have a safety sear to prevent out of battery firing - which is essentially the same as an autosear. The BATF hates that.

I did not know that.  Huh.

Honestly, other than for collector interest, and for the odd fellow who automatically covets anything that's unergonomic and Russian (looking your way, Khorne), the SVD isn't really all that.  A DPMS LR308 will net you better accuracy and is considerably easier to find.

Which is why I started getting interested in AR-10s.

SVD was one of my dream guns.  Then I realized what the SR-25 or the LMT MWS were essentially.  And they have 20rd mags to boot!

Post by: Nightcrawler on December 17, 2012, 01:07:02 am
You could get a Remington R25 and it'd be just as light and just as accurate as an SVD, and easier to put a scope on to boot.  The SVD only did maybe 1.5 - 2 MOA generally.  Many box stock, lower-priced AR-pattern rifles can duplicate that, especially since you can get higher quality ammunition.

THAT was a great day.
George is unique, he makes you shoot better than you thought that you could.
I had just put the sight system on it and shot it at 50 yards to get it on paper.
We were hitting steel at 400 yards with a 16.25" barreled .45-70.
Yes, it was a life sized buffalo... But Yea, 4 football fields with a rifle with iron sights and a rainbow trajectory.
Trust me, shooting that thing at 400yards is a whole different ball game than at 100 yards.
I can't wait to get legit training with him.

I saved up and finally got an AimPoint red dot sight. Its a Patrol Pro. I got it from MidwayUSA for $400 even and it got here in three days. Excellent optic. At 50 yds I can cover the three shot group with a quarter. At 25 yds it was practically the same hole. I moved back and set it at 50 yds. Love at first use. I was an iron sights only man until my eyes started changing with age. I must admit now that the speed and accuracy of this RDS cant be matched with irons.

It came already mounted in its ring. All you have to do is put it on the rail, and tighten the knob until it gives three clicks and you are set. It was that simple. It was more or less centered but needed a bit of fine tuning. My Magpul BUS are set at 25/300 and co-witness nicely

I dig the AimPoint PRO. I added one to my SIG 556 recently and have been very pleased with it. I had used a cheap red dot for hunting before, but this is my first good quality one. To say there is a noticeable difference would be a *slight* understatement.

One of my nephews bought a completed 20" HBAR upper and stripped lower from Palmetto Armory the week before Newtown. The upper and lower are top quality. We assembled it today at the PD and had a good talk about current events while we did. It was a memorable afternoon. He is one kid that renews my faith in the upcoming generation. My brother has taught him well.

He still has to Barbie Doll it up a bit with a MagPul forearm and rail with a light. He bought an ALG Defense trigger to put in it that was as smooth as glass. He also bought a nickel boron BCG and a flip up rear sight (can't recall the makes). His next purchase is an ACOG.

Here is a photo of my new Magnum Research MLR22AT .22 rifle with the Graphite wrapped stainless steel barrel.  This is based on a Ruger 10/22 action, so it uses 10/22 magazines and will accept aftermarket trigger groups.  It weighs about 4.5 pounds without a scope.
I have mounted a Nikon P-22 2-7 power scope that is ballistically matched to .22LR ammo.
I am looking forward to taking it to the range.

Regarding my new Magnum Research MLR22AT rifle.

I got to the range but found that I had mounted the scope incorrectly.  After rotating it 90 degrees and sighting it in I did some practicing with it.  From the start I have had absolutly no feeding problems at all using Remington bulk, Winchester bulk, and CCI Mini Mags.  Here is a target from 25 yards standing with an improvised rest.  The thing is a real tack driver.  I did have the takedown screw come loose and will have to figure a way to secure it better.

I finally got my IDF inspired carbine put together.

When the panic buying hit I took stock of all the AR parts I've collected over the years and realized I was a LPK and BCG away from a complete rifle. I wanted to use a lightweight 16" barrel, but the old Bushmaster 11.5" with permanent attached flash hider was all I had so I went with it. Turned out to be a nice shooter. The rifle is quite reliable with a H buffer and it's more accurate than I am. All in all, it's not bad for about $600 worth of parts.  :thumbup1

His stock is hit and miss, it is a small shop... but he tries to keep stocked up with a little bit of everything.
His prices don't seem to be out of line.
Right now he has M1s, M1 carbines, M1A, an AK, FAL, a few lever guns, bolts, pumps, etc.
The shop is small, but it is only 10-15 miles off the beaten path.
I would say it is worth a stop in to look around.

I posted pics of this one before. Just recently worked it over some more. Its a Chinese MAK 90 I purchased in about 93. The thumb hole configuration sucked, so I decided to fix it. Just added are the AK optics rail, the very homemade galil charging handle, the also homemade flash hider, and the tapco galil hand guard. It has the tapco trigger group, tapco saw grip (huge improvement over the original) and an ace side folder putting me where I need to be and then some for 922r compliance. I think I am done, although at some point when my budget allows it will get some kind of red dot up top.

My pride and joy.

T-C Hawken in .50 caliber
With just the iron sights; at 200 yards, I can put 10 LRB in a 10" pie plate.

currently, I'm working on obtaining some period correct accountrements and some custom-smithed lockable gun hangars, so I can display it.

From your shooting results you must have younger eyes than I to use TC bead and notch sights that well.  That said, I have mounted adjustable Patridge (square notch & post) sights from the early TC Renegade series on all of my TC New Englanders.  The TC bead and notch sights gave an almost impossible sight picture (for me) with a poor index of elevation. The patridge sight picture cured all that.  I can now maintain "minute of paper plate" groups with my stash of the 410 grain Buffalo bullet and hard card wad seated over 100 grains of Goex FFg at 200 yards.  Velocity averaged 1260fps - if memory serves correct.

On a slightly different note, I load a 12 bore TC New Englander smoothbore wth a .690 bullet alloy ball, lubed cloth patch and hard card wad over 100 grains of FFg. I have maintained the same "minute of paper plate" groups out to 65 yards with just the bead front and centered breech index for sights.

I was looking around on the Internet, I can't even find where one would get one (couldn't find a price or anything). I did get to read a little info about them as far as gas system etc, they seem really cool other then being intangible to me.

Daewoo has always had problems with keeping US distributors, and most of their rifles were banned from import by name during the AWB. Today they would need US made parts to meet current import requirements.

The only way you'll find one now is to watch the auction sites.

I hope not  :o. Most gun lovers regret the sale of a firearm (if its one they like of course, which "have to sell" doesn't sound like want to sell). Another reason is that I have a bad habit of spending money on guns that I don't have, you having sellers remorse and me being in the poor house is just a bad outcome  ;).

Synthetic stocks have changed our thinking about rifles.  They are durable, weatherproof and stable.  But they will never replace beautiful walnut.

Here is a close up of the cheek piece of my custom stocked Win 70 in 7mm mag.
Title: Re: Rifle Pictures!
Post by: Mississippi556 on July 27, 2013, 10:40:39 pm
Here's the whole rifle.  This is a transition Model 70, circa 1969 in 7mm Rem Mag.  Stock is Claro Walnut.  Skip line diamond pattern hand cut checkering.  Recessed sling cups.  Very revolutionary for the time.  Obligatory white line spacers, rosewood stock tip, engraved and monogrammed silver pistol grip cap. Glass bedded action.  Leupold period Vari-X 3-9 x 40. George Lawrence #3 Whelen sling.

This was my father-in-law's favorite indulgence.  Knowing him, hunting and shooting with him made an indelible impression on me as a young man.  To this day I have a passion for hunting arms of the '50's and '60's when American firearms workmanship was at what I believe to be its zenith.

I recently picked up a Benelli M4 shotgun & a Bushmaster ACR from a small settlement that I received at the beginning of the month.  I got a smoking deal on the ACR and despite being on the heavy side (it has a heavy profile barrel which is where all the weight is) she is very accurate, smooth shooting and just a joy to shoot.  I'm trying to decide what optic to put on her but for now I'm using an Elcan M145 that I have lying around and so far it's doing a pretty good job.  The bolt action is a rifle that I just finished building for the owner of the Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge in SC that he commissioned 2 months ago.  I built it up from the bare action and did all the work myself.  He specified a 20" barrel, detachable magazine, 1.5-2lb trigger, all weather stock, sub MOA accuracy & weigh under 10lbs.  I met all the requirements (trigger is 1lb 12oz, HS Precision lightweight stock, 20" tapered barrel w/brake, PTS detachable magazine kit w/AI magazines, .62" 5-shot average w/custom loaded ammo & 7.3lbs w/o scope) and am extremely happy with how it came out.

Agree.  Like the custom bolt gun.  Strange customer choice on length of barrel, but the customer is always right, even when giving up a good bit of velocity and down range ballistics.  Well done.
Title: Re: Rifle Pictures!
Post by: mattitude on July 28, 2013, 04:45:31 pm
Yes, the (paying) customer is usually right and in this case I believe him to know what he wants is correct for him.  A 20" barrel isn't that unusual as example the Remington SD & Tactical both have 20" barrels.  The area in SC where he will be using it is heavily wooded, swampy and the longest shot across any field won't be more than 300yds.  He wanted a somewhat light rifle with a shorter barrel so it will be easier to climb into tree stands and also maneuver around in the stand as well without making much noise.  It's a very sweet rifle that I would love to own myself.

He specified a 300yd rifle...that's exactly what he got.  I've also hunted there for almost 2 years now and his longest field is right around 350yds, but average shots are 150 and under.  They are down in the Estill area, really swampy and really full of gators now from all of the rain.

Idk matt there can be some pretty big fields out there.

Nice, indeed.  I went a different route for my tree stand/bean field rifle.  I did not build it.  Remington Custom Shop.  "Blueprinted" Remington 700 long action.  McMillan classic pattern stock.  Blind magazine for rigidity. Actually went for a longer barrel, 24", chambered for 280 Remington.  Trigger is set for 2.5 lbs.  Topped off with an Austrian Kahles 2-7x36 scope with German #4 three post reticle in Talley rings and bases.  Brownell's black Latigo sling.  Rifle with scope, sling and full magazine ready to hunt tops the scales at 8 lbs. even.

She puts 140 grain Barnes handloads at 3100 fps into .600" groups at 100 yards.  I can do 1/2 MOA with heavier target loads, even with the slim barrel contour.  The hunting load is sighted in 3 inches high at 100 yards.  About 8 inches low at 400, but I don't take shots beyond 350 because I ain't good enough at longer ranges (yet).

As a newcomer to tactical weapons, I've come to appreciate that "black guns" can be elegant, and that one is.

Should you name it, the way great longswords once were?

It is Orcrist.

Here is what Remington used to do.  This is not a custom shop gun.  Standard catalog.  Remington 541S "Custom Sporter" .22LR.

Nice walnut, real checkering, scroll engraving, and deep highly polished bluing.  It has a target action with very crisp "icicle" adjustable trigger set to about 1.5 lbs., but a sporter stock and barrel.

The "new" Remington would really mess a gun like this up if they tried to make it today.  It's a shame what happened to "Big Green."

Remind me to show this to The Wife next time she complains about me eyeing another rifle... or a guitar, for that matter. I've only got 25 or so of those...  ;)

The look my wife gave me when I had everything out so I could hang pegboard:

Sorry Jesse, no AR-180's unfortunately. Pretty good otherwise.
Robinson M96, sig556 swat patrol, a samson railed stag upper from our pals at the former FBMG on a cmmg lower, two colt 6920's, scar16, samson railed sig556, POF P-415 upper on an RRA lower, FNC para, DSA SA58 para congo, another samson railed stag again from FBMG (I really miss those guys), heavily worked over MAK90, DD light railed BCM carbine upper on a grizzly LAR lower/w CMC single stage trigger (my baby), mid 80's mini14 factory folder (ac-556 would be nice), polytech underfolder, and a hidden vector uzi semi. The AR's except for the second stag, the FAL, and the scar all wear eotechs, and the sigs have aimpoints. Stag #2 (the OD green one behind the FAL) has an acog on it.       I call it a nice start. My co-workers call it an obsession. obama calls it an arsenal. My wife calls it a nice garage sale upon my demise. My girls call it their inheritance. The constitution calls it my right.

FMJ, you know that I L-O-V-E those Finns!!!  One of these days I'll have to get one, along with a FR-8.  When I was in Germany I remember looking in the Kettner catalogs in the surplus section and seeing the FR-8s for only DM100.  I wish that I bought a handful when I had the chance.

I can't say no, so now I have the one on the left to join the one on the right.

How do you like your Robinson M96?  I've wanted one ever since I saw one at a local shop close to 10 years ago.  It wasn't on the shelf very long before someone bought it and that was the last time I've seen one in person.  I was actually thinking about getting one when I was in the market for a new rifle back in July...that's when I got my Benelli M4 & ACR.  Speaking of the ACR, I wonder why no one here (besides me) owns one?  They are really nice rifles and the newest generation seems to have the bugs worked out.

Those both look like the stock has been cut and repaired, right at the back of the upper handguard.  Or is that how they were made originally?

I like the M96. A friend and I were running it hard one day and snapped the trigger in half. I took it in to the factory since it is close to my house, they replaced the trigger for free and sent me on my way, so they still have good factory service for the guns. Mounting optics is problematic since they no longer build the rifle, so accessories are few and far between. Its a cool collectors item that I wont part with, but it would not be my go-to gun in an emergency.

That is fairly typical of a Finn Mosin Nagant. The Finns would often replace the stock with their two pice version, which is what those apear to have. It is a great way to tell if one of your Mosins where over hauled by Finland. While not all of them have the two pice stock as far as I know they were the only ones who did that. If I have time tomorrow I will have to get out my camera and get in the gun safe to show you some good pictures of what I mean.

Yes, those are Finnish arctic birch stocks.  They're two piece and the splice is at the middle.

You can tell if they're wartime if the "fingers" are rounded.  If they are squared off, they're post-war stocks.  Both of my stock are war time but in really great shape.

For some reason my new SAKO has this weird oval wood piece on either side of the splice. I've never seen that before but it does not look like a repair, per se.

The first one is a custom Remington 700 that I built from the action up.  It takes AI pattern magazines.

Next rifle is a Russian CM-2 rimfire single shot match rifle.  I bought it from CDNN almost 2 years ago when they were pretty much giving them away.  Extremely accurate...but VERY heavy.

Iraq did make a SVD copy called the Al Kadesih but it wasn't an exact copy.  Main difference is the receiver is stamped, not milled.  The bolt rotation is opposite and the gas system is non-adjustable.  They are pretty scary rifles in the way that they are a few trigger pulls away from a kaboom.  Haji has balls for shooting them.

Next rifle is a SSG-82 rifle in 5.45x39.  So much controversy surrounds this rifle in that no one really knows who made them or what they were made for.  It shot MOA on a good day mainly because of the fixed 4x scope that also has a very thick reticle.

The Microtech SSG was the first generation and I got it right when they first came out.  I initially had issues (along with most other first-gen owners) but luckily their customer service was very nice to me and actually fixed it the first time and didn't ignore me or give me the runaround like they have done to most other people.  The first-gen rifles were so plagued that it was rumored to nearly bankrupt their firearm division just in warranty repairs.  I actually loved mine as it shot very well and was very accurate.  I ended up selling it when they reached their peak in the market and considered buying another one when CDNN was blowing them out for under a grand...but I didn't end up pulling the trigger on any of those mainly due to fear of needing to use their customer service in the future and lack of parts if anything went wrong.  They aren't fully compatible with the Steyr AUG so it was a gamble I wasn't willing to take.

Would I be correct in assuming that they are 10 rounders then?

I should have caught the fact that it looks stamped rather than milled. :facepalm Oh well that is what I get for looking at the pictures so late. I thought the picture looked a bit off for an SVD and only china and Russia had built them but then again I don't know everything. Good to learn something new though.

I wondered if that is what it was. I haven't heard a whole lot about those rifles though. I have heard some people speculate that they were for guarding prison camps.

Thanks for the information. When CDNN was blowing them out I though about getting one too. I couldn't find one with a 20" barrel though. That is what I really wanted. I couldn't find the 20" barrels either. For what little it is worth I like the looks of the MSARs over the Styers. I think they look more like the F-88 which is what I would really like.

Yes that is a 10 rounder AI magazine and I also have a 5 rounder.  I use the 10rd magazine when I shoot off the bench and the 5rd for hunting.  I prefer a detachable to the factory fixed and the center feed is smoother.

The Al K is different in quite a few ways but make no mistake it's inferior to the SVD in just about every way.

The SSG-82 was also rumored to have guarded the Fulda Gap, Berlin Wall and also airport security.  Unfortunately there are no (public) record of their service anywhere.  A true mystery in the firearms collecting world.

I'm not sure if Microtech ever released a 20" barrel.  They were supposed to have a factory suppressed barrel assembly but again I never heard of its release.

The top gun was a double claw sniper that I built up from all original parts except for the Steyr Long Side Rail safety which was a repro that I got from Numerich.  The base rifle was a dot 44 R/C and I got the Zeiss Jena ZF39 scope & mounts from a collector and is a wartime setup, not post war.  The hardest part to get was the double set trigger which was an original Steyr unit and they were very limited production.  I ended up selling that rifle  as I got an offer that I just couldn't refuse from someone who just had to have it at pretty much any cost.

Yes Weaver mounts, but it is a Weaver 2-7.  It is on an older Remington 700 .300 Win Mag.  I have a new Redfield 4-12 that is just waiting to get mounted up.  I was thinking about setting it up for 150gr and using it for wolf hunting, but needed ammo.  Now I have the AR, but need ammo for that as well.

It followed me home from gun broker.......
I had never even seen a Tavor before I bought this one. Read lots of reviews etc. I just wanted one.
1st impressions:
1. Its not an AR-15. This is going to require some time to learn since the AR is what I have been playing with for the last twenty years. Thats OK, it will be fun.
2. The trigger sucks. We knew that going into this. Its a bullpup. And its not the only gun I own with a less than perfect trigger.
3. Its butt heavy. That was a safe assumption going into this as well. Even though its weight is at the back, it still feels good when you shoulder it. Wont take much to get used to that.
4. Its ugly. Im talking glock ugly. Its so ugly its cool. The females in my family hate the way it looks. Most people comment that it looks like a toy. It doesnt feel like a toy when you pick it up.
5. Its short. I knew it was going to be short, but I didn't realize just how short it really is. Small arms review magazine called it an SBR without the tax stamp. When you move through a room with it it doesn't present itself with a long protruding barrel twenty minutes before you manage to follow it around a corner. I really like that. Its almost like a long handgun.

I need to get out and shoot it, but that might take a while. Pretty busy at the moment. The eotech 553 came off an AR. When my wallet un-puckers itself from this purchase, I will probably buy an XPS3 and stuff that up there, but for now the 553 will live there. I need to figure out how to run a light on it. I like to run lights on the left side forward, and use my support hand thumb to run the tailcap switch. You can see where the charging handle is on this thing. It has a short rail section up front on the other side, so I will probably have to do a pressure switch of some sort, but thats not a big deal. Other than that its done. If this were an AR I would just be getting started, so it kind of feels weird that I'm almost done, but my financial adviser (momma) likes the fact that I wont be adding a pile of expensive extra toys to it.

Made it to the range today with the Tavor and a Colt 6920 with very low miles. I had only had the colt out at an indoor range once. This was the first time with the Tavor. I papered both at 25 and then just plinked stuff. Running the tavor off the bench sucked because the trigger is brutal. Firing it off hand as completely different. Im impressed- this thing wants to be shouldered and fired like a rifle should be. I really like it! The colt made better groups. I ran some federal 55's, some wolf 55's, and some of my own handloads done with a 62gr fmj bullet. Both guns fired everything I fed them without any issues. The tavor did fail to hold open after one magazine ( I was letting a guy from a local sheriffs dept shoot it when that happened)  but thats it. I ran the mag that came with the tavor, a new 40rd p-mag, and a tango down arc mag, and they both liked them all. Was a good way to spend an afternoon! I need to do this a LOT more!

The one on the bottom I just got yesterday for my eldest son.  It needs some work and some new parts for personal taste reasons, but it is good to go as is.  We're going to replace the stock and pistol grip, and then repaint it.

Thanks. I would also like to pick up a K1A1 or AR-110C.
The M14 bullpup conversion kit has a few fans, but not many.
