Question About Refinishing a Rifle
« on: February 09, 2012, 11:04:38 pm »
I just bought a used Marlin 1894C.  It seems to be in good mechanical shape and the barrel has no visible flaws.  However, it has some rust spots and, given that it will be a field gun, I'd like to get it refinished.  I am thinking that parkerizing will be as good as anything and better than most but I am open to suggestions.

Any suggestions?

Parkerizing is a good base to other, more durable options. Personally, for a field gun, Id go with cerakote. The other options that are air dry don't stand up as well, and alot of them wont stick real good unless the gun has been parked first. Parkerizing offers minimal protection over bluing but does give a nice surface for oil to stick too and the oil is what stops rust.

For a field gun, go with something durable. Cerakote has a good reputation.

I looked up Cerakote and it looks like a better finish than parkerizing and i can get it in different colors.  Thanks!
