NEW Sig 556
« on: January 19, 2010, 07:48:30 pm »
Well, after nearly a month or so I finally popped for the new Sig I was planning for.
I wound up with the Sig 556305.  Sixteen inch barrel, and a side folding stock that has some extendability built in, though not quite so much as the M4forgery version of my Bushmaster.
I think I'm going to like this rifle. :D :D ;D
I had seen an earlier version at Academy Sports for $1700.  The one I saw had no sights at the time.  It turns out that it did but they hadn't put them on the gun at the time.
The one I bought was less $$ than that.  I paid about $1400, plus some other stuff I bought added about $150 to the total damage.
A couple people here remarked that the 556 Sig mags aren't the best.  I see what you mean; even the Pmags are a great improvement.  The only "neat" thing about the Sig version is they have a rail and can be clipped together.  Not something that overwhelmingly impresses me.

I do have a couple questions.  The stock on mine has a triangular open area in it, with a  slot in the rear along with a circular hole.  The forend -- gas check has a metal loop on the left and a funny circular ... "dohickey" on the botttom, the purpose of which is not explained.
I am now in the market for a good sling for it.  A simple one, no tacticool stuff is necessary.  But something which attaches especially on front would be nice and any suggestions from  fellow Sig 556 owners here would be welcome.

 ;D

Everyone says that, but I haven't seen it. I bought a pair of them at Academy for my AR. The coupling thing doesn't do much for me, but they haven't malfed in my rifle. Guess I'll have to put some more ammo through them, just to be sure.

That said, I do like PMags a lot.
