My bolt-action rifle

Here's what I want in a bolt-action rifle:

-.308 Win chambering.
-Left-handed action.
-20" heavy barrel, threaded.  No more than 22".  26", is the norm, is too long.
-Picatinny rail scope base (optional)
-Detachable box magazine holding 10 rounds (optional)

Unfortuantely getting a rifle like this would be a custom job.  I could start with a Remington 700 and go from there.  Honestly, I think I could be happy with a lefty R700 with the barrel cut down.  The only lefty they make has a 26" tube.  Same goes for Savage.  FN doesn't make anything left handed.

What do you think?  Go custom or don't bother?  If the price of getting this rifle built would exceed the price of Gundoc building me a long-range setup Broadsword then I wouldn't do it.  Similiarly, if it would exceed the cost of buying a DPMS LR-308 and having Gundoc customize it to my specs then I wouldn't do it either.

    Getting either a Remington or Savage shortened and threaded is such a ridiculously simple and straightforward job that I wouldn't even think twice about it.

    You could add your own scope rail, I am pretty sure that you can add a box mag and its got a heavy threaded barrel already it is 24" though.
    I like the savage triggers better than the Remington, but you don't have QUITE the selection of aftermarket gizmos for the Savage as with the Remington.

    I'm sure George can get it for you cheaper than MSRP which is ~ 1k

    So your total package price with good glass should be in the 2k range, which is about what you will pay for an accurised AR .308 rifle alone.
    But, I don't know that your going to gain any real advantage in accuracy, these days with gas guns what they are (the Broadsword esp, I'd put it up against a LMT, OBR or POF any day I don't know about a GAP they are outside my area of experience) your not really losing any accuracy with a gas gun like you used to. Its all about what you want the rifle to do, because either will be able to perform at distance.
    JMHO etc.

    I think I just talked myself out of that .223 bolt gun I was looking at, guess I'm gonna be building an SPR haha!

    I'd do it for you. I've had a Savage and a Remington in my lathe within the past couple months. But, I don't have an FFL yet.  :facepalm

    Any halfway competent gunsmith with a lathe should be more than capable though. I wouldn't expect it to cost over $100, probably under $80.

    My friend has a Savage, just like that, but right handed.  I'd rather have a shortened Remington.  The Savage is a good rifle though.

    Doesn't CZ offer their main bolt action in LH?

    Because I know they do for the .22 rifles (but I still got an RH one for some reason).

    The Ruger rifle has a 16" light barrel. I want one, mind you, but that's not what I was thinking of.

    That would work too.

    Mike, if you want to do that I've got a Savage barrel nut wrench and .308 "GO" gauge you can borrow - all you have to pay is for shipping everything back and forth.

    I remember reading about these guys in a Rifle magazine a couple months back. They apparently do custom Savage 10/110. They have a neat rifle builder option, but you have to submit your configuration to get a price. Here is the rifle builder screen:

    My daughter uses a Remington 700 LTR with a left hand action. You would have to have the barrel threaded, but I think it meets your other requirements. She got her first deer with it in 2010. Nice shooter.
