I'm Nightcrawlering my FAL.....
« on: January 22, 2011, 08:03:05 pm »
Maybe not postworthy, but It's just been a capper of a day... :rotfl

I was out shooting my FAL, and (I'll go in order here).
#1.  It isn't sighted in for my current batch of ammo.  I forgot as I had sighted it in for softpoints during antelope season, and it shot super-differant.  But I wasn't in the mood to rezeroe.
#2.  I noticed the buttpad worked loose.  No biggy.  I loc-tited the front handguards earlier due to working loose.  I can do this.
#3.  I was in the process of unscrewing the buttpad and....the whole rear end flies up and smacks me in the mouth.... :bash
#4.  Apparently the upper end was tightened just fine....so friggin fine it unscrewed the BASE of the recoil spring tube.  Oh goody.....
#5.  Not real sure of how it's set up (I ain't broke it down that far), I removed the buttstock and spent half an hour trying to figure out when end to stick in first, then recoil spring.
#6.  Came to the conclusion that sticking the recoil spring back in is a royal PITA.
#7.  So, I screw the recoil-tube back in, (Loc-titing the receiver end) and go to unscrew the buttpad.
#8.  Apparently the buttSTOCK is held onto the recoil-tube by a bolt, and then the buttPAD bolt screws into it: This: http://www.dsarms.com/Butt-Plate-Screw---096/productinfo/096  Screws into this: http://www.dsarms.com/Return-Spring-Tube_Buttstock-Screw---094/productinfo/094
#9.  I came to the realization that when those two pieces were mated, someone cross-threaded it and it's stuck in tighter than ****.

Now we'll see how much I can mess up.  I'm going to be ready to order two new pieces, because it looks like I may have to cut the bolts out and get a new one.....Just funny.  I fix something and another gun falls apart....

I saw the title and thought... "Well... how did he break it?"

     Technically I guess that ain't right...IT...isn't broke....I'm having minor....reassembly issues.

That said, after being in a ticked off mood, it's funny but I got a mental image of NC fighting with his jammed bolt carrier, IOR scope problems, etc.
