Changing length of pull on 10/22?
« on: September 14, 2009, 02:03:01 am »
After my experience out at the appleseed shoot today, (see https://wethearmed.com/index.php/topic,39.25.html),  I have found I need to adjust my 10/22.   I'm 6'4" with long arms, and the standard length is just a little too short for me.   I've been looking for aftermarket stock extensions and recoil pads, but I haven't found anything.   I've got the target model and all the ones I can find are for the standard model with the curved buttplate.

Any suggestions?   I was thinking of making my own spacers out of some wood or heavy rubber.  I could trace the existing recoil pad and spacer to get the dimensions right.  Another option would be to buy one of those fancy Fajen adjustable stocks.  Cabela's has them on their website for $120, but I don't know if I'd be able to get one here before I go out again next week.   I know if I ordered it from Midway, it would be here within 2 days, but they are asking $157 for it.

Are there any slip on ones that might work?

Hmmm, I don't know of any slip on units that would work. Can speak for the Fajen though. I have a Fajen Legacy Adjustable on mine and really like it. I set it up for my dimensions and couldn't be happier. If you could wait, keep checking MidwayUSA for a sale. I picked mine up for $100.00. Do want to mention one thing though. On my stock, the magwell dimensions are a little smaller, so I have to push my mags out. It doesn't bother me, causes no issues. Maybe I'll take a dremel to it, maybe not.

There was a simple extension of about 2/3 inches.  I have one on my 10/22.  Bought in a bag at a gun show years agone.

Who couldn't find it on the web???  My GoogleDo is lacking today.

I found some of those, but they are only for the standard model 10/22.  It's got a weird curved stock with a metal buttplate.   The target model that I have is more squared off with a rubber recoil pad.  It's actually a little longer than the standard model already, but it is still too short for me.

I decided to order a Hogue stock,  hopefully that will fix the problem I had with it wobbling.   As for the length, I dug out an old FAL recoil pad and I'll try taping that on there.   If it works ok,  I'll look at getting some permanent spacers that I can shave to fit.

It isn't too difficult to make an extension.
Some wood, a decent electric planer and some basic measuring.
I recently made a 3" one for an air rifle that must have had a youth stock.
    It turned out ok.
Not nearly as hard as it seemed at first.
