Century Arms International - Centurion 39 AK pattern rifle
« on: July 23, 2010, 05:41:31 pm »
I just read an article regarding the Centurion 39 AK pattern rifle in the Sept. '10 issue of Guns magazine.
Sounds interesting as I love AK types and always wanted an American build. Does anyone have knowledge and/or experience with this particular model? BTW, I have a WASR-10 and have been very happy with it over the years, mag wobble and all. Not too long ago, I almost picked up a lightly used Arsenal SAM-7, but had to pass due to bills and whatnot.

A quick look around and the 39 seems to be going for $800-900. Maybe it is cheaper somewhere I didn't look, but no way in hell I'd spend that kind of money on a Century rifle. Hell, I'm not willing to spend that much on an AK.

When you're dropping $800 or so on a quality AK, Century is NOT the place you should be looking, IMHO. Need a WASR? They seem to be generally OK...

Are they really "made in America", 100%? Seeing "Made in America" on previous AK rifles because they meet the definition of "US Made" by virtue of having enough 922(r) compliance parts has made me a bit...wary.

I should hope not. Mobs of rogue woodworking tools would suck to repel.

Honestly for 900 bucks why buy an AK?  And if you're determined to buy an AK for 900 bucks don't buy Century.  Go get a Krebs, an Arsenal or other quality builder.  I'd have no problem using Century for less expensive purchases, but not that high.  Thats good gun money.  Get a good gun for it.

Exactly.  You can get an Arsenal for less than $800.  I looked at the Krebs catalog, and I don't remember them being that cheap.  Who cares?  I personally want an Arsenal anyway...

Don't get me wrong, I know Century isn't exactly a hub of fabrication excellence. However, I was hoping they got their act together. Maybe they have?  :shrug

I appreciate the replies and with that said, does anyone have hands on experience with this particular build? Any witnesses to it's function?
