Building a bolt action 300 blackout. Need a barrel.
« on: October 09, 2015, 09:36:35 am »
I have the donor rifle already. An older Remington 7 in 223 is waiting for me to hand it over to the gunsmith to become a blackout. I know the Ruger American is out there already and there is still a dirty rumor going around about Mossberg's MVP in 300 blackout. This one is going to be uniquely mine. I have been looking at Green Mountain Barrels because they list a 1 in 8 30 cal. barrel for about $110 bucks before shipping. Is Green Mountain a good barrel? I won't spend $300 on  barrel for this project. The funds aren't there and won't be, not if I want to pay to get it put together this decade. $200 I could probably swing for a barrel. I would hope as well that the barrel would be on hand somewhere when I order. Seems like Green Mountain has theirs all the time. Anyone have any center-fire experience with them? Or any other options for barrel choices that don't run  over $225ish?

Haven't seen any of their centerfire barrels but the barrels they make for the Ruger 10/22 seem to be quality stuff.  A guy at work runs one on his 10/22 and likes it fine - the rifle shoots better than either one of us.

The only people that I know use Green Mountain is on .22LR rifles.  They seem okay considering everyone else I know is running a Lilja or some other crazy barrel.
