45ACP Rifle/carbine
« on: July 19, 2016, 04:10:17 pm »
I'm looking for a 45ACP rifle, carbine or AR upper to use as a host for a silencer.  I can't seem to find what I'm looking for shy of $700 on up.  Is that just the going rate?

I haven't seen any sort of pistol caliber carbine for less than about $650 lately.  Those are generally the marlin Camp Carbines in stock wood trim.    :shrug

      Not in .45acp.

PSA has their 9mms for around $600 assembled.

But I haven't seen .45 AR's or standard carbines in a long time.

There aren't a lot of good .45 ACP magazine options that will work in a standard AR lower.

There is, or at least there used to be, an outfit that made ARs in .45 that used Grease Gun mags. Can't for the life of me remember the name of it, but I'm 99% sure it started with "B" "B-something Bros," I think it was.

Quarter Circle 10 makes lowers that use Glock mags, and their "Large Frame" lower will work with either .45 or 10mm mags. That would be a "build-it-yourself" proposition, I'm afraid, and probably outside your budget too.

The only .45 ACP carbines I see available from my distributor are The Kahr/Thompsons and Hi-Point.

The Hi-Point carbines are as ugly as a mud fence, but I don't hear a lot of complaints about them. Price is ~$380.

a number caliber options, i think very early on a few people had a bit of issues with them but seems like they have been pretty solid for the last several years.  reviews seem good.  I have been planning on picking one up for my g17 or g21, maybe even a 1911 but might be more difficult finding a 30rnd mag for the 1911.

The Macon Armore upers are gas operated as opposed to blowback.  Much different in recoil.  Worth the differ in price to me.

Olympic used to have a 45ACP upper (as well as a 10mm) that used a modified grease gun magazine in an unmodified magazine well and they weren't that expensive.  At one time when Tromix was making uppers I picked up a .50AE upper for around 650-700.  He also did a .44 Magnum upper for a very short while...I'd love to have one of those.

I was doing a search for them while waiting for this thread to load.  I really want, but do not need, their multi-caliber package.  I like the looks of these better than the Just right carbines.
