I've got some red dot powder. Does anybody have a recipe for using it to load .40 S&W? I have 170 gr cast, 180gr jhp, 155gr fmj.

    Not near any manuals currently, so I don't have a load to share.  If you're looking through manuals and not finding any loads in them, I wouldn't pursue it any farther, that powder is awfully fast for use in the 40 S&W.

    It doesn't really work for full power loads for sure.  4.0 grains to start for up to the cast 170's.  I'd work up until I got a 100% reliable load and stop.  Watch for bullet setback.  If you find you like Red Dot, your might want to look into American Select.

    I have found 4.0grns of Red Dot behind 175 grn lee lead TC.I don't find any info for red dot in 40 cal though. :hmm

    Alliant has not published data for a Red Dot load for the 40 S&W on their online guide, although they have for other cartridges like the 44 mag and 45 ACP.  There is data available online, but I am hesitant to pass such info on without verifying it myself.  The charge weights are on the light side.

    I have used 5.0 grains red dot with 180 grain jhp and Win wsp primer. ( from an older red dot manual) works just fine in my 4" xd.

    Thanks, got some green dot too. Nosler manual has a recipe for it.
