pulled tracer question
« on: January 30, 2009, 05:32:20 pm »
Anyone here ever loaded pulled tracer bullets? I have a bunch of 53 gr M196 red tip I got a while back at a gun show. Was wondering what powder works best ect. Also, any good cheep ways to remove primer crimps on cases? I need to start using up the brass I have been collecting for a million years since its not easy to find loaded ammo at a decent price anymore.

Well the dillon pocket swadger isn't cheap, but it works awesome.  Other options are the RCBS unit(which works ok, I use mine quite a bit), or you can cut the crimp off by hand with a cmamfer tool.

As far as powder, I'd imagine BCL-2 would be fine.
This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty. . . . The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction- St. George Tucker, Blackstone's Commentaries

I guess all the money you saved on the primer tool you can put toward powder.  ;D

I use a Hornady primer pocket reamer tool:

I use it to get the primer pocket square and then deburr the edge with a 3/8" drill bit in my cordless drill.

I shall to tell my secret: I never, ever use cases with crimped primers. But if, then Mora knife  ;)
