Need valuation assistance please
« on: July 16, 2009, 11:35:21 am »
A gun club I belong to has decided to sell the reloading presses kept in the clubhouse.  Almost nobody uses them, but if someone did and someone screws up their process they could sue the club.  The board has decided to accept sealed bids up to the night of the September board meeting.

Here's what's for sale:

Dillon 550, set up for .45 ACP, with dies and powder measure
at least one large pistol primer tube, possibly more
a few of the slip-on Dillon plastic tubs
a beam scale (I think it's a Lyman)
an RCBS single-stage press (I think it's the bottom of the line C press)
the table they're mounted on

I don't care about the single stage press so I'd probably sell it, and can find other uses for the table.  I have a beam scale, but technically it belongs to a friend of mine (though he loaned me all his stuff over 20 years ago), so it would be nice to have.

So . . .

What should my bid be?

Depending on the condition and accessories for the Dillion 550 (i.e. Strong Mount, Bullet Tray, Extra Tubes), I'd probably say a bid between $450 and $550 would be fair.  I don't now how much the single state would be worth.

I think it might have the strong mount, if that is what the bins slip onto.

I'm only thinking of allowing an extra $20 for the single stage, as that's probably about all I'll be able to get out of it.

    Thanks.

Aye, I would value it at around 500 myself.  But being a cheap scotsman I would bid 350 :P
My goal is to be +20/-1000 before 2010!

But my goal isn't to be cheap.  It's to win the auction without paying too much over FMV.

Reloading one at a time on the single stage presses is enjoyable.  To a point.

But it takes me a comparatively long time to load enough rounds for an IDPA match or steel shoot, both of which occur once a month.

I wouldn't do more than $400 for the lot.

If the bracket it's mounted on is black, and the bins line up it's probably on a strong mount.

Bid for the lot?  400.  If it's in excellent condition 500 tops.
This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty. . . . The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction- St. George Tucker, Blackstone's Commentaries

    Thanks for the input folks.

I see brand new 650s on e*bay for roughly $550, so probably wouldn't go over about $475.

If I bid at all now.  May have shot the budget this weekend on the '06.  But it shoots so darned nice!!!  And there's always the 650 on e*bay.
