My new bench is almost done!
« on: October 03, 2009, 10:47:00 pm »
I am pretty excited about this, my first ACTUAL reloading bench/workbench for gun projects.

Here are a few pics of it so far, I have to put on one more 4x4, and the surface, after the liquid nails cures:

The frame is held togther by 1/2" carrige bolts, and 4 1/2"x8" lag screws.  It ain't going anywhere.  It is also going to be bolted to the back wall, right into the steel gerters... :devillol
There is going to be a sheet of OSB on the back of the thing, as a wall to prevent stuff from falling down.

This is the tabletop surface, 23/32" polyboard laminated with 7/16" OSB, liquid nails and pre-drilled drywall screws hold them togther:

Comments and/or suggestions?

OH!  And just for the haters, my "long" hair:

Sorry Jesse, it ain't gonna be cut anytime soon either. :neener

I had hair longer than George's once.  I also got it caught in the chuck of a drill once too.

Not fun when a drill slams into the side of your head.  Less fun when it's not a reversible drill.

    Nice bench!

    Looks quite sturdy, for true.

I just cut my long hair off yesterday.

    Sweet reloading set-up.

I like my hair either long enough to all go in a ponytail or short enough to not worry about it.
I used to have longer hair, one time some doofus pulled it during a "disagreement" but got his balls rearranged because he was wearing those gay Zumba pants at the time he tried pulling my long ponytail. Definitely made him stop pulling my hair. I wish I had the foresight to say "Do you know what my favorite Helen Hunt movie is?... TWISTER!"

On the hair?  Yeah. just wait 'til you give yourself a good shove to go under a truck on a creeper and wrap the 'ol mullet up in the creeper wheel which slams your head into a concrete floor VERY hard before winding up in the wheel so tight you can't even move without scalping yourself.  Oh, and at this point you're pretty much under the truck, so standing up carefully to extricate yourself is a no-go.  Or so I hear anyway......

    On the bench-

I LIKE those long braces under the top front.  That should control wobbling to a high degree.  What color is your working surface going to be?  I recommend white.  It helps with lighting, and makes it easy to see spilled powder, dropped primers, etc.  Is it going to be anchored to a wall in its permanent home?

Creepers and long hair and working with moving parts should not belong in the same sentence.

In case of a Z outbreak, having short hair is advised.

AR nice bench man.  Thats gonna be SWEET!  In fact you've inspired me!  I'm going to try building my own bench here in the next month or .... someday.   :nervous

As to your hair?  I had hair a bit longer than yours in college.  I had really groovy curls and girls loved it.  Until one young lady caught her hand in my hair, stupid cheap jewelry.  BIG TURN OFF.  Lost a patch of hair that night.  Ruins the moment.

Warning though, I shaved my head the next day and it still hasn't grown all the way back in.  There's this spot on top that just won't seem to thicken up like it used to, it's wierd you can see my scalp....

    damn...   :doh

    I wish I still had hair. ;D

Why do you live in a warehouse?

    Ben
    This one covers it:
    BECAUSE IT'S AWESOME!!!   :neener

This is a outside view of my house:

It was originially going to be a "playplace", holding our shop, gym, ect, and my dad's offices. (he is a computer tech dude)  It kinda got expensive, since we built it to last, so we were about $20k short of our required budget to build ACTUAL house, so we have this.  I mean, it is pretty awesome, how many kids have a gym INSIDE their house?  My ROOM I can put a 10 meter air pistol range in if I so wish. (usually I practice at quarters with airsoft guns, I don't have a nice pellet pistol)  Since it is located on a farm, I have a 200 meter range, multipule places I can shoot handguns, and my backyard has large floodlights, with a perfect 2 sided backhill for shooting tactical rifle/handgun out to 30 meters.  I just need to set up a range there...

The upper set of windows are my room, and that little building beside is my dad's main office now.

Norseman--I have actually never read those...after my oldest brother did, my parents decided they didn't like um.  I am allowed now, but I have no intrest.

Yeah, with about 6800ft^2, it ain't that small either.    Come on out to KY, it is amazingly gun friendly, has trees(!) and land is cheap.  If we all band togther, I know of a place that has about 1200 meters a mile from my house... :devillol

    Sometimes, usually just "The Warehouse".

At some point, I really want to get a turret mounted gun of some sort (possibly a coilgun, one project that I have) on my roof, that I can control from my room on a computer setup.  Deer hunting to the max.

Well, I wouldn't be too sure about that, it has a large size to soak up that awesomeness. ;D
I need to find another kid like myself at my school that can help me with the coilgun...(chances of that,,,,,...,,,,,slim to none, but if I start on chemical weapons, I know a kid... :D )
