My favorite was arrived at by pure chance.  I was running a 150 Sierra FP over varying charges of 3031 and getting nowhere in the accuracy dept.  I was staring at my powders and pondering on this when I happened to notice that my keg of H335(that I use in 223) had a load for my 30-30 slug right on the label.  Out of pure frustration I backed off the 33.0 grain max by ten percent, and loaded up ten rounds each from 30 to 33 grains in 1/2 grain incriments.

Happy day!!  At the range the hotter the charge, the more accuraute it became.  At the 33 grain max charge 25 yards out, 5 rounds cut one hole that didn't even break 40 caliber!!  These results were repeated in all six win 94's that are in the family.  Susequent testing in 90 degree summers and single digit winter temps show no degredation in accuracy.

So by pure accident and frustration I found "THE" load for 30-30.  At least for me.

    Not sure if I'd call this a "'pet" load, since IT'S OVER MAX RECOMMENDATION. 

    I have three boxes, long since shot and not yet reloaded, that my dad had labeled as 35 gr. 4895.  I don't know if he was using H4895 or IMR4895, but 35 grains is over the max for either.  I even checked a late 1970s era reloading manual on the possibility that the recipes had changed, but the maximums were even lower then than they are now.  They were 150 grainers, and were loaded probably in the late 70s to early 80s.  I don't recall when he gave them to me, but I would have fired them all somewhere between 1983 and 1996.

    My Winchester at the time was a post-64 Model 94.  They didn't seem to cause any problems, and went roughly where I aimed.
