It was one of those nights where nothing was going right. I sat down to load up a bunch of 5.56 test rounds for next week, and right from the get-go I ripped the sleeve on my shirt on the plastic mounting bracket for the Lee primer feed. (That plastic is TOUGH!)
Dumping primers onto the primer tray, I pushed the box sleeve too hard and spilled about 20 onto the bench top, and due to a particular phase of the moon, none of them fell flat, but rather on their round edge, giving them amazing mobility in escaping. Yeah, I know they're cheap, but they're also somewhat rare, so retrieval was in the best interest of my frugality.
Same thing with the bullet box. Sierra has some really strong labels that can defy tearing when you try to open the box. It will let go, but usually only on one side so that the box slips from your grasp and starts dispensing bullets in full auto mode. I'm beginning to resent the invention of the circle at this point.
When I measure out and weigh powder, I use those Lee dippers to dump a charge into the scale pan close to what I want, then finish off with the dribbler. Raising the scoop up to the scale pan, I get out of sync and spill the charge onto the shelf instead. Sheesh! Even the 748 powder is ROUND!
The final straw was, as I was charging the cases, I failed to move the funnel to the next empty case and filled the case to overflowing. Actually it didn't overflow, but just stopped running out of the funnel. But it did once I tried to pick up the shell (which isn't sticking out too far below the funnel) and filled a couple of holes in my loading block.
From now on, I'm not going to be listening to Gretchen Wilson while I'm loading.
"HELL YEAH!!!"
