Title: .380/9mm
Post by: Rigger on March 09, 2010, 08:00:22 am
Can you trim 9x19mm luger down to 9X17 for .380?  I know you can't with 9X18 because it is .015 over in diameter, but what about regular 9mm?  Usually find a bit at the range I shoot at.  I know you can trim the 9mm down to 9X18 and use it in the CZ & Makarov.  Be gentle now. ;D

The 9mm case head is a good bit bigger.

Won't work well I'm afraid, there's about .020 difference in case head diameter.

Thanks, guys.  It's not a wasted day when you learn something. :clap

It won't help you immediately, but you ought to be able to scrounge a lot of 380 brass off of the ground.  A lot more people reload these days but from what I've seen not many of them reload 380.  Thus no one seems to mind if I pick up 380 brass.  I don't go out of my way to look for it but I often find some interspersed with 9mm I pick up.  I just keep a cup on my bench that any 380 like this goes into.

Sounds like a good idea, but .380 is as scarce as a liberal at a Glenn Beck rally.  There is a small gun shop in town that got some in and broke it down to 1.00 per round.  And yeah, they sold it 1 round at a time. >:(

Yep, last time I had the ol' 380 Mak out and was spraying nickel plated 380 brass everywhere, there were 3 guys fighting over it.

I've got around a thousand rounds of .380 reloaded, with more cases sized, belled, primed and waiting.  I actually stopped loading it, because I honestly can't see myself shooting that much of it out of the little P232.  Snappy little beast hurts sometimes.

Then again, maybe I'll try it at an IDPA or steel shoot.  Nah.  Skip the IDPA.  It doesn't have enough oomph to knock down the steel poppers.  The steel shoots, on the other hand, generally have all the plates locked in the upright position.

Looks like I need to get that OWB holster started.
