Yup. I think The Dillards were around back then or shortly thereafter as well. John Hartford sort of became a protege of Earl Scruggs when he moved to Nashville in the sixties - picked up that style of banjo picking - and became pretty influential in his own right. I think it was called "three finger" picking or something like that and it really took off in popularity. Also, David Grisman was getting traditional bluegrass instruments into jazz styles pretty early and kind of pioneered that genre with his bunch.

All in all, a very rich musical vein if you're into digging through the old stuff.

John Hartford played with the White Brothers on that same tour I posted yesterday, but I have not found any recordings of those shows yet. I love that era, lots of older greats surrounding themselves with fantastic new talent. Scruggs was famous for finding young musicians and mentoring them. Recording tech prior to the '60s really leaves something to be desired much of the time. But lots of great country, bluegrass, and folk music if you dig for it.

Here is part of Clarence's unfinished solo album he was working on when he was killed. After about 15 years of old time country and bluegrass, he started playing with the Byrds. When that gig ended he reunited with his brothers while working on this solo project. It is what a country rock/bluegrass fusion should sound like.

careful, your showing our age again, throwing names out that the younger generation (s ?, crud, it is more than 2 younger generations now, ain't it. dadburnit) don't know and probably never had the pleasure of listening to. While they might know OF Hank Williams, they probably never heard any of the Carter Family or Jimmy Rodgers either.

Well, I'm in my twenties and I listened to Hank Williams on my commute today

. I've also been known to listen to The Carter Family through Google play radio, so you geriatric fluffers will have to wait at least a few more decades before y'all can get all sanctimonious

We're too old to wait.

I can say that now. I met up with my brother last night. Haven't seen him in a couple of years. First words out of his mouth were that he finally has more hair than I do. That may be because I just got a haircut, so he literally has more quantity of sparse hair. Might be. For 40 years I've had more, so I'll let him have his moment of glory, such as it is. For now.

It's you young'ns have to wait 4-5 decades to get sanctimonious.

I once heard that the best part about old age is that if you don't like it, it doesn't last too long.

Never heard it put that way before, but I appreciate dark humour.

No. The funny s___ is what you don't get if you eat too many green bananas. Eat the green ones and they plug you up. Eat the over-ripe ones and they loosen you up.

At least, that's the way I think it works.

I try not to eat too many of either, just in case I remembered it wrong.
