Well, I guess the song was OK but a video featuring some guy in a cheesy cat costume affecting the mannerisms of a cat while stalking a street musician is just wrong.

Well, I've been a fan of Alex the astronaut since I heard her a while ago. I've always liked the acoustic and folksy stuff.

Most every music video I've seen seems to be strange, no matter the artist or genre. This was tame by comparison.

Not a non sequitur, while I agreed that it is oddly themed, the music video follows in the footsteps of a great many "wrong" videos

The fact that they went for decades without being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is incomprehensible to me.

Their music was pretty cutting edge stuff back in the day - particularly with their early use of synthesizers and orchestral accompaniment. They pretty much defined the genre of the themed album early on. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the blast from the past.

Agreed. I want to learn how to play guitar so bad

. If I ever get good at it, I'll swear that Benjamin Tod and artists like this guy were responsible for it. I just think picking and folk music go great together

I'm not sure I'm entirely on board with the idea of being remembered as "simple and wholesome" . . .

Pretty good. I would call it more of a finger pick style. Kinda like Chet Atkins.

I am likely wrong but when I think flat picking, I think of the drop d style of Clarence White/Tony Rice.

Well, they were probably in on it but I think the beginnings of that movement were actually back in the 1960's. John Hartford was playing that styles maybe as early as 1966-67.

Clarence White was playing professionally by 1958, when he was 14... Not saying he invented the drop D tuning or that style, I do not know, I do know that he was a hugely influential guitar player who died too young.

"New Grass" did start in the '60s and yes the White brothers were in at the beginning. Clarence on guitar, Tony Rice still plays one of Clarence's old guitars that he got after his death in '73. Roland on mandolin is a well know and well respected mandolin player. Their big band was The Kentucky Colonels, which was formed around the three White boys, formed in the late '50s or early '60s. They started playing as The Country Boys in 1954.
