Now that we have that cleared up.
My admiration of the German people comes from no matter how many times they are swatted down, they rise like cream back to the top. From the rise of Prussia, to losing a whole generation of men to WW1, then within 20 years rising to be the top dog in Europe again. Bites off more than they can chew in WW2, loses another generation of men (plus) has their infrastructure demolished, loses Pomerania and Silesia and has to relocate those populations, is occupied and split in two, and still... within a generation is economically near the top of the pile. THEN, the FDR has to absorb the DDR, setting them temporarily back again. And within 20 years the dominant state in the European Union, and one of the top economies in the world.
If that is not impressive, I don't know what is. Seriously, these people are meant to rule the world. (And yes, while I am partly of German stock, it is not a high amount, so that is not what this is about)
To the authoritarian part, you are correct. Germans love structure, order and efficiency. It is both genetic and cultural, as one feeds off of the other. The most efficient way to create structure and order is through the power of a strong state. Libertarian, the German culture is not. I think that is what attracts me to it.
