For being so short, that was very nice  :thumbup1.

And people say that Germans don't know beauty  :bash.

I only watched the intro, but that was all I needed. Star Trek.

Nailed it  :cool.

LOL, nope. First, I think you have Star Trek confused with Star Wars. Philistine.  ;)

Second, either way you need to thing about 30 years earlier.

Sorry, Kaso. I couldn't resist.

Do we forget that cops were primarily still using 6 Shot Revolvers well through the mid 80's? It wasn't until after 1986 that most departments then relented and went to autos.
Capacity wasn't really an issue then... and honestly really it's not even an issue now.

Um...  Casablanca.  How could it be anything else? :scrutiny

I'm not even sure if you were joking there.

Raptor, that's okay.  The French need some small thing to look to as a point of pride.  Even if it is only an old movie scene.

Was joking about star trek. Was not joking about seeing the first few seconds of the video.

    I have never seen Casablanca.

I believe the  ":neener" signified that I was joking.

It's not Italian or Chinese food, but... it's still pretty high up there in my book.

Look, they're just going to have to settle for being the BFD in Europe.  I'm on board with the good music and even with the good food to some degree but they've got an authoritarian streak a mile wide and as far as I'm concerned that old dog just won't hunt.

:hmm They can't be that authoritarian now days if they are currently being destroyed by hordes of radical immigrants can they? As far as I know, they are losing their culture and identity.

Of course, but they are very authoritarian while doing it.  Left wing lunacy is practically the home of unbalanced authoritarianism.   :coffee

Now that we have that cleared up. :cool

My admiration of the German people comes from no matter how many times they are swatted down, they rise like cream back to the top.  From the rise of Prussia, to losing a whole generation of men to WW1, then within 20 years rising to be the top dog in Europe again.  Bites off more than they can chew in WW2, loses another generation of men (plus) has their infrastructure demolished, loses Pomerania and Silesia and has to relocate those populations, is occupied and split in two, and still... within a generation is economically near the top of the pile.  THEN, the FDR has to absorb the DDR, setting them temporarily back again.  And within 20 years the dominant state in the European Union, and one of the top economies in the world.

If that is not impressive, I don't know what is.  Seriously, these people are meant to rule the world. (And yes, while I am partly of German stock, it is not a high amount, so that is not what this is about)

To the authoritarian part, you are correct.  Germans love structure, order and efficiency.  It is both genetic and cultural, as one feeds off of the other.  The most efficient way to create structure and order is through the power of a strong state.  Libertarian, the German culture is not.  I think that is what attracts me to it.

I won't argue about any of your rules.  But all I will say, is that going ice fishing will destroy that first one.  When all you have to look forward to is freezing on a lake, a snort with your breakfast hangover is very welcome.
