I visited the wall when I was in 8th grade.  I think if I would have completely understood what it was about back then, I probably would have been very sad.

Last summer was the second time I've been to The Wall, and it just completely tears me up, and I don't even really know quite why. I don't know a single name on that wall personally.

I did grow up with the war; it started during my childhood, more or less, and ended when I was a teenager, just before guys I knew well would have started being sent. The people I did know who went came back.

I would say that it is because I am the mother of sons now the ages of many of those men, but the first time I went I wasn't even yet pregnant with my first, and it got to me then too.

As I get older all war memorials have some effect on me, emotionally; I "feel" the sacrifice in a way that I didn't when I was younger. The Wall is just the most emotional. More so, even, than Arlington.

I've seen that prison before, haven't I?  The movie Mean Machine maybe?  Maybe Chopper?

Or are all English prisons that dismal looking?

I love Philadelphia too, but for a different reason (mmm... cheesesteaks...)

I've been to Williamsburg a few times. It's not really that great. Sure, there's a lot of history, but it's also something of a tourist trap.

eh, in that case I'll go off season, having come from a tourist town, I hate your typical tourists... you may see me with a camera but you don't see me gawking like an idiot, plus I personally believe if you look like a tourist, you look like a target.

as for cheesesteaks *droooool* luckily for me there is a place 5 mins drive from work run by a guy from phili... he actually uses cheese whiz, only place around me that I know that does.

No, I'd go; there's enough history to make it worthwhile in spite of the tourists. And I'm probably jaded 'cause I've been there three or four times already.

personally believe if you look like a tourist, you look like a target.

Amen to that. I'm always giving my family a hard time whenever we go anywhere about pointing and taking pictures of every little thing. To me, that's like holding a big sign over your head saying "LOOK AT ME! I'M A TOURIST! PLEASE MUG ME!"

Cheese Whiz?  :vomit No way. Either American or very mild Provolone is what you should be putting on your cheesesteaks. Oddly enough (while we're speaking of tourist spots and cheesesteaks), the best cheesesteak I ever had was at a little shack in Lexington, Massachusetts.

Pick your jaws up off the floor, you're leaving puddles.

It's a long story, but it turns out the guy who ran it was from Philly and had retired out to Lexington. No idea what the name of the shack (yes, it literally was a shack) was or where exactly it is, but if you're in/from Lexington and you find it, let me know. I NEED TO GO BACK!!!!!!!

A shot I took earlier this year looking over the backyard.  If you look close you can see Ram, the goat, at the bottom.

That reminds me of the time when I was passing through Shrewsbury on my way to Wales and the train line had flooded so we had to wait for a bus to take us down instead and a American women walks over to me, now I couldn't look more like a tourist I have a rucksack on my back and a bag in my hand and I'm with 3 other blokes with rucksack's and we are speaking in a Scottish accent. And she asks me what castle is that and points to the castle on the hill  :doh I was a bit dumb struck for a second and had to point out to her that just perhaps the fact we where standing in Shrewsbury it might just be Shrewsbury castle!
