The GrimNoire Chronilces: Casting Call (All enclosed spoilers)
« on: February 26, 2011, 10:41:39 pm »
Okay, I know it's a little early, seeing as how only the E-arc is released....But we've already pretty much got MHI and MHV pounded out on Who's who.

So....I was re-reading TGC (For the 5th time already), felt stumped when I sat down to write another TGC chapter, instead wrote chapters on two other things.   So, I need to get my TGC muse back  ;D

Sooo.    (Sorry, no pics for referance, my internet's connecting at 26K tonight and I'm.....NOT searching for photos).

When I did Harkeness, I was told to keep Christopher Walken in mind.  (my first illustration version was a bit too Walken.)
We could have Tabret Bethel play Deliliah.  A hot, bruiser chick.
For Jake, we need someone big but can also play someone very smart and in Hollywood that is hard to come by. (Arnold as Mr. Freeze anyone? that's a bad example btw.)
    That's a hard order and I don't know who I'd choose.
By the time the movie would be made, I think she'd be old enough, for Fay I'd choose the girl from Kick A#$.
The Chairman has to be Ken Watanabe.  Oh yeah.

Just outta curiosity:  Was Delilah meant to be blonde or brunette?  :hmm     I was picturing her to be like one of the very few cajun's I know, white, with a very dark tan skin and brown hair?

As I recall, Larry once said that he wanted Adam Baldwin to play Jake Sullivan in the movie. That's who I had pictured in my head when I was reading Hard Magic.

I like Hit Girl as Faye. She would do pretty well in that part.

Christopher Walken as Harkness is awesome. I never would have thought of that.

Bud Spencer as Lance Talon would have been great fun. I'm not sure how old Lance is supposed to be, but I like Kurt Russell for the part.

For Daniel Garrett, the Voice is the main thing. For that, the only guy I can think of to fit the part would be Mike Rowe.

John Moses Browning-- I think Terry O'Quinn might work.

For Delilah. I don't know. Maybe Eliza Dushku. She can play damaged and tough pretty well.

    Heinrich is tough to figure.

I love threads like these. :)

I'll try not to color your impressions with the actual writerly type opinion, because I've got how I see them when I write them, but I love to see how you guys see them.

Though I am on record as thinking Adam Baldwin should play Jake. He's got the physicality and the intelligenece, though his humor would be wasted because Sullivan is relatively stoic. (though he gets to be funny once in a while). Jeffrey Dean Morgan would also work. Mickey Rourke looks too old.  Adam Baldwin is aging faster than I'm getting super famous though, so I don't know if I'll sell the movie rights in time! :D

Yes, in my head, Harkeness is Christopher Walken.

Chloe Moretz as Faye? Hadn't thought of that. In a couple of years she would be the right age... Faye's a skinny teenage girl, but she also has about the most physical role in the story. Whoever plays Faye has to be quick. Innocent and dangerous, and a little bit crazy/odd.  In #2 she gets an even tougher role.

I hadn't thought of Eliza Dushku as Delilah either. Though she is about the right age. (unspecified, but Jake is 32, and Delilah is a little bit younger).  For the record, Delilah is a brunette.  Plus she was described as being borderline petite, but keep in mind that is coming from Jake's PoV who is 6'4".

Lance Talon looks like Norseman. :)

I don't really have an actor picked in my head for Francis, though I know exactly what he looks/sounds like. He's very young, rather handsome, (so we're probably going to grab an actor off the CW) kind of has a rich kid/frat boy attitude, but he's got a lot of potential to be a leader. Black Jack Pershing could see that. He's got great potential if he doesn't totally screw it up. :p

Terry O'Quinn might not be old enough to play John Browning, who is 77 in HM, but he does look a lot like Pirate Bob Southunder, who is also a real person. Though if we have a movie and the guy from Lost first appears on an island in the middle of the pacific, people are going to get mad at me.

Dan Garrett is pudgy, short, losing his hair, (late 30s) but he's got a voice like the IN A WORLD movie announcer guy.

Heinrich looks like a cross between Ben Foster and Michael Fassbender. Oh, he seems friendly enough, but that guy has seen some hard times. Remember the close ups of Ben Foster's crazy eyes in 3:10 to Yuma. Yeah, that's what Heinrich looks like before he Fades you halfway through a wall. :)

Mickey Rourke or Jeffrey Dean Morgan for Jake.

Mickey Rourke was my first thought as well.  He did "giant thug" well in Sin City, and "smart guy" well in Iron Man 2, so, combining them shouldn't be out of reach.  And he's definitely got Jake's "ugly" down.

Ron Perlman is another possibility.  Big, smashy, yet pensive from Hellboy makes me think Jake wouldn't be outside his reach, either.

    Maybe Daniel Craig as Matty.

Wrong Ken.  How about Ken Takakura (Black Rain) for the Chariman.

    Kate Beckinsale for Delilah.

Michael Dorn for Maddi (if he can still pull off the voice)

Now, that I finally got a chance to read the E-arc I guess I could weigh in here.

Delilah:  I like Kate Beckinsale for this, and any role.  I could also see Eliza Dushku here as well.  What do you think about MIlla Jovovich, or Charlize Theron?  Or...Nicole Steinwedell
Faye:  I can't believe that Summer Glau has not been suggested here.  Chloe Moretz (Hit Girl), that works too.
Jake:  Here's an off the wall thought... LL Cool J or Dennis Haysbert
    Francis:  Bradley Cooper.
    Heinrich:  Jason Stratham
    Pirate Bob Southunder:  Robert Patrick
    John Moses Browning:  Lance Heinricksen
Lance Talon:  I like the suggestion of Kurt Russel for this.  What about Max Martini?

I would definitely pick Mickey Rourke for Madi, but not as Jake. I especially don't think that using the same actor for the brothers would be a good idea as the two are similar only in voice (which can be achieved through technology or voice over) and build, and completely different in the face (especially when Madi's eye is taken into account.)

For John Moses Browning, I would suggest Clint Eastwood. No actor I know of really looks like Browning did, and Clint Eastwood comes closer than most, and has played both highly religious men (Unforgiven) and crotchety old men (Gran Torino) before.

For Faye, Delilah, Lance, Jane, Garret, Heinrich, the Chairman, and the rest...  :shrug.
My problem is that most of my favorite movies are old westerns, and Roy Rogers, Lee Van Cleef, and John Wayne are all dead (also, I don't watch very many movies).

I had a flash of inspiration for Heinrich... Andy Hallett. Then I remembered something.  :facepalm

I've seen his name thrown around in the other (MHI) casting thread, but I think he'd be better as my second choice for Heinrich- Karl Urban.

So I couldn't see Eastwood as Browning.  It just didn't seem right.  Well so then I gave him a digital haircut and mustache and... yeah he could do it.

+1 for Summer Glau as Faye, but by the time the movie came out, Hit girl would be more age appropriate.  I think Eastwood would play a great JMB.  Garrett I kinda pictured as the guy from "Bizare Foods".  :hide

Well I was just wondering if anyone else had any new thoughts on this since reading the last two new releases?

My choices still stand on preferances of actor/actress choices.  Only thoughts are I agree that LL-cool-C (ironically) could probably pull off a Jake Sullivan, although it ALSO being the 30's might make that a little 'off".   Stana Kacic strikes me as being a good Delilah with a little coaching.

As for the rest....still ain't done alot of thought on it.

I STILL....say we gotta do something and get a movie deal made before Adam Baldwin gets way too old....he's already "up there" but could still hang in there.     He'd be perfect in that role.  Heck, really the Grimnoire Chronicles would probably do good on it's OWN right now......even without the books.  I mean the setting/background is cool enough it'd be good as a standalone movie series.

I vote for Ken Watanabe as Toru. He'd have to get ripped for the part of course.

Andrew Garfield as Buckminster Fuller. He's a tad young, but not by much.

    Michael Emerson for Wells.
