They're going to add illness to DayZ.  Interesting, but I think ultimately pointless.  In my hundred-plus hours of playing, I've yet to live long enough that illness would be an issue.  Somebody always murders me, or my old nemesis, falling to my death, gets me.

    Nightcrawler's Day Z Adventures: I found a truck!
    « Reply #151 on: December 18, 2014, 12:09:53 am »
There are vehicles in the game.  I found one!

I excitedly hit the road!  I didn't have anything to do with the truck, mind you.  I was just going to drive it around, lording it over other players, until someone murdered me and took it, or it ran out of gas.

I didn't get far.  The truck was apparently part of some kind of Philadelphia Experiment thing...I ended up phase-shifting into the Earth itself, unable to extricate myself.

Getting out of the truck resulted in my immediate demise.  :facepalm

Wow, that was pretty good. Just like DayZ. Hardly any zombies, but more than a few bandits. I was bummed when the guy's friend bought it.

I've been meaning to update this.

This is from one of the variations of the original mod.  I haven't played it, but it seems the developers have gone crazy with it.  They have Namalsk island, which is an homage to STALKER, right down to the bloodsuckers.

Check out the attachment.  Being unemployed (hopefully I go back to work soon, I'm going stir crazy), I have a lot of video game time on my hands.  It took me a long time to assemble all the gear you can see on Comrade Sniper here.  The damned Mosin Nagant was the hardest thing to find, just because I had bad luck.  The sniper scope was just luck, as finding one in good condition is rare.

It's not challenging to get this stuff, mind you.  You just have to be patient, because your guy is going to be hoofing it back and forth across the map.

Alas...before I could even use it, I was killed. I had holed up in a house, locked in. He just magically appeared there and shot me in the face while I was eating (it takes forever to cancel an action and get a weapon ready). I don't know if it was someone that happened to log in, having hidden in the same place as me, or if he was a hacker with a teleport cheat.  (The servers I play on are generally hacker free, but they do pop up from time to time.  Why you would cheat at a video game is lost on me.  It's not like you get anything if you win.)

Either way, it was...frustrating. Comrade Sniper did not serve International Socialism well today.

Once you die, of course, you start over with nothing. DayZ is the king of making a reasonable person rage quit.  LE SIGH

    Teddy and Me.

They put Teddy Bears in the game as part of the holiday update.  There are big Christmas trees in some of the cities, with bunches of teddy bears sitting around them.   :scrutiny

Ah, but that is because you have done real things in your time.  Many (most) people haven't.  It's not limited to video games.  It's the same people that race ahead to cut you off in traffic, walk faster to get ahead in the grocery line, always take two of the free mints at a restaurant.  They are winning at life, you see.

The first image is of a zombie chasing a bull.  I thought it was pretty funny.

The second is me getting off to a bad start.  I didn't last too long in that session.

Yes.  Both the SKS and the Mosin Nagant are weapons in the game.

I just find it interesting that they picked the Yugo M59/66 model with the rifle grenade launcher fixture on the muzzle as their model.

Bohemia Interactive is based in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.  I'm guessing that the modelers just had a chance to examine a Yugoslavian SKS.

There's a bug in the game that damages your legs.  It happens rarely when you're on the second floor of a building.  The game freaks out and thinks you fell.  Usually it just ruins your pants and shoes.  In this case, it broke my legs.

Now, you can fix a broken limb.  You just need sticks and rags or gauze to make a splint.  But I didn't have a splint, I didn't have sticks, and I didn't have a edged weapon to cut sticks from a tree.  So I was reduced to crawling around Cherno futilely.  I did what any reasonable person would do in this situation: I stabbed myself in the neck with a screwdriver, respawned, ran back to Cherno, and recovered my gear.

Seeing my own corpse was a bit of an existential moment for me, I'm not gonna lie.  "I need a drink," my character said.  Yeah, man, me too.

Well I was playing the mod for a little bit but I'll admit time isn't on my side and I haven't played in a while. I'd be willing to find a little time here and there after a little while if you guys get something together;)

I play the mod quite abit. I would be more than happy to group with some WTA folks.

Plebian is my steam name. I tend to go by Plebe in DAYZ mod servers.

If folks are down for it. It might be nice to grab epoch mod of DAYZ mod and make a WTA base.

Well George, the game is only for real computers.  You can't play it on a Kindle, either.  :neener

In all seriousness, I think there's no Mac port for two reasons: number one, it's still an alpha, and number two, I don't think Macs are especially common in eastern Europe.

Now, H1Z1 is out.  That game is from Sony Online Entertainment.  It, too, is in Alpha, but it's got a lot going for it: better engine, better counters to hackers.  It will eventually be out for PS4, too.   I don't think a Mac port is out of the question.
