Well...it went bang!
« on: July 29, 2014, 11:34:28 am »
I was gifted a Knight .54 Cal in-line muzzle-loader some time back.

Still learning, still a gun buddy more knowledgeable than I, got me set up. The fellow that gifted this to me, used Blackhorn 209 powder, and that is what I used with the bullets and sabots.

This thing has been loaded since the fall of 2013 and here it is the end of July 2014. Today...
It went bang!

Ain't that a helluva a deal?

It should be very accurate too.   Knight makes a good gun.  Heavy Hitter too.  .54 cal Sabot is no joke on Elk.

    Accurate oh hell yes!!
Then again every firearm is more accurate than I am... ;)

In fact I am getting a pkg together for Jesse. Being dumb as a brick on stuff...i.e how to use the digital camera I have had for about 2 yrs now...how to post a pic from either said camera, or cell phone...
I am going to send the targets I have shot to him, and perhaps he can post them.

Oh, Ruark said "Use Enough Gun". .54 cal vs groundhog? .54 cal won...at 75 steps.

Good hell that would have been quite the mess.   Ground hog would have looked like it got hit by a truck.

I have a Knight inline .50 cal that I have taken several deer with including the biggest doe I have ever seen. I am in SE Ohio and the deer tend to get a bit big here. I keep mine loaded if I don't get a shot from season to season. Never had an issue with going boom even to the next season.

That is an excellent gift. BP guns are fun and the inline rifles are sweet.  :thumbup1

    That is about it!
He was on his haunches, facing me. I was aiming for his nose, and instead hit dead center, just under his chin.

I would score his back flip an 8.9 , his landing a 2.0. Basically he did not nail his dismount, instead landed on his belly.  ;)

I just hate it when that happens.  They get a great routine going, with difficult flips and all, and then lose it all on the landing.  Oh, well.  Better luck to the next target candidate.

Several years back, a hunting buddy of mine went to sight in a new scope he put on his Knight muzzy inline. He never checked to see if it was loaded from the previous year. He ended up shooting 240 gr of Pyrodex and 440 gr of bullet in his double charge. No harm done to the rifle, but it put him on his ass and left a nice scope bite gash over his eye. He was lucky (and admittedly stupid in that case). I decided to make an "unloaded" scribe line on my ramrod. Every upcoming season, I double check with the ramrod to see if I am still loaded or not.
