OK - maybe they could paint it orange and hang some fake greenery off the breech end and call it a strategic carrot .  .  .   :shrug

It gets even worse. This Civil War vintage cannon is located on a traffic island in front of the WWI memorial and it is pointed at the front door of a Presbyterian church.  :shrug

Who owns the cannon, why did they paint it pink, and why is it pointed at the church?  :scrutiny

I don't think one has anything to do with the other... Personally, I would point a cannon at a church (depending on the denomination) out of general principle, same as I would point it at a gov't office, were it across the street.  :coffee

I'm pretty sure who own's it has something to do with it being painted pink, unless you're suggesting that in the wee dark hours a band of roving painters stopped on a whim  to paint it simply to make use of the unwanted cans of pesto-bislo pink paint they had.  ;)

"why is it pointed at a church?", could just as well be "Why is it pointed at the bank?".    Don't know about you,   but pointing a cannon (even a spiked one) at someone is just rude.

Who owns it? As it sits in a traffic island, either the city or an HOA.

Why is it pink? Some activist organization convinced either the gov or hoa to allow them to make a statement piece of it.  Could be for breast cancer, could be for gays, maybe women in general.

Why is it pointing at a church? Could just as easily be asked as: 'Why is it pointed parallel to the road?'  Which it seems to be.

I was curious if ti were owned my the municipality or by something like the U.S. National Park Service, ect.   If it's municipally owned then anyone bothered by the paint job just needs to complain enough towards election time and they'll get it repainted a more "normal" color. If Fed owned...good luck.

The why is it pink question was looking to see what the motivation was.  Breast Cancer Awareness?  While overdone, meh. WHo cares.     If it was painted pink to bring awareness of the plight of gay-lesbian-gender-queer-fluid-trans-sexual-species-pan-ethnic local artisans* against the Patriarchy and Judeo-Christian  oppression of Islamic Socialists then it should probably be fought against on general principle even if there isn't a snowballs chance in hell of doing anything other than raising a stink.

I suppose someone could paint a couple of beach balls a matching shade of pink and "donate them" to the display by stacking them at the base of the cannon........ ;)

Brief searching on google seems to indicate that it was a temporary paint job to bring attention to something or another.  Further, that cannon apparently gets painted over often, as it is the target of semi-sanctioned graffiti by local high school football fans.

    Oh, Bog.

Can we as a society just stop it and get over the virtue signaling ritual of wearing colored ribbons, hats, shirts, et al for the supposed purpose of "raising awareness" about whatever the cause du jure may be?
Those who care, care and are doing something about it.
Those who don't, don't and at most will wear the crappy little ribbon for a day or two just to get people off their backs.

Next time I'm asked to wear a pink ribbon for "Breast Cancer Awareness" I think I'm going to respond with, "Wear that to support Breast Cancer?  Sure! I'm all for it.  I'm more of a "Legs" man anyway." >:D

That's always been something that bothered me. People go nuts over breast cancer, because 'The women need our help '. Prostrate cancer, which happens at roughly the same rate, gets completely neglected.

Yes. For all humans it is heart disease and then car accidents... I think

Or maybe the other way around? Nah, I think that's right  :cool .

Okay, here's the reason it's pink.  And it's not as interesting or inflammatory as I had hoped.

Now, in my opinion, this is a pretty piss poor way of promoting your greenway trails.  But it falls into the current trend of bending over history and making it bite the pillow to suit your agenda's purposes.
    Essentially it's History Rape.
What I'd do is write some letters to the State's History Preservation organization, asking that the Cannon be returned to its natural state, pointed in a direction other than at a Place of Worship, and have the Cannon coated in a Hydrophobic coating that will shed future painting attempts.
