1. We all know criminals are not wired the same as the law abiding.
2. And some folks wonder why we on gun fora do not recommend having or carrying some "weapons" like putting nails in a baseball bat, etc.
3. Alcohol/Drugs do have a tendency to make matters worse, be one a criminal or not.

Officers also took Joey Sumner, 27, into custody. Police say Sumner showed the homeowner a gun in his waistband, threatened him, and forced entry inside the house.

Now, I answer the door for strangers with a gun in my hand. Had this happened to me, Sumner would have been shot. OTOH, I may not even answer the door if one of them has a homemade mini-spear.

There's just fail all over in this story.
I'm not saying you should use an M1A for home defense, but I'm also not saying you shouldn't.

Just me, even though alcohol was a factor, the lack of alcohol would not have changed much in how "wired" these two criminals were. I mean some criminals are just flat stupid...that does not make them any less dangerous.

Here on the farm, we rarely ever use the front door. One instead uses the back door, adjacent to the two car garage.
So I get "called on" from time to time , from  folks lost out here in the country, to UPS/FED-Ex. Bible-Thumpers, Sheriff/State LEO's (if I have seen heard something), to , for some reason the word "salesmen" does not seem right.

Yeah, I CCW, then again I do have a 4 D cell Mag-Lite in the garage, and boy's axe, and two shovels. Then I do have that stout cattle cane.

    Funny and True:
A Burgundy Mini-Van showed up once, with out of state plates,  and I had just gotten out of the shower. They left before I could get dressed. About an hour later they came back. I know in my gut they were casing this place.
I had two boxes dishwashers/washing machines come in, set up, for some "exercises" if you will.

I was doing drills using gun and cane when they came back. They freaked, and did a poor attempt at selling me on the idea of coming to visit their church.

Ain't seen them since. Then again I did call the Sheriff Dept and reported what happened. Which they appreciated as some stuff had been going on.

When I have been down with surgeries, Sheriff Dept has actually checked in on me. They know I have a lifetime CCW, out of respect I lay the CCW down on the counter in garage. Most times with the cylinder open.

    Re: Revolver.
One Deputy, while young has bought a revolver, for his wife and teenage daughter, in .38spl because of me, for home use, and in the event they get hurt, or sick, or whatever.

I get chided, still thanked at the same time for sharing with him, and he has shared with me.
This Bull about law abiding and LEO's not getting along  is bunk for the most part, IMO/IME
