Title: Iraq 03-04
Post by: 42N on May 09, 2020, 01:03:22 pm
I arrived at LSA Anaconda, Iraq 17 yrs ago today, 9 May 2003 after a weary 2 day convoy with 3 transports and 2 canvas topped hummers. I think each hummer had a SAW and 3 M16s. Not a lot of firepower as i think about now. Plus we got lost twice. Not like getting lost around here. But, we made it.

I arrived at Anaconda a little less than a year later, over in KBRland.
Spent my time outside the wire driving convoys.
I think we both learned the fine art of hillbilly armor.  ;)
At least they gave you weapons  :facepalm

Man, I'm not sure, but I think it was middle of March sometime? We crossed right away out of Kuwait on whatever day the President said "Go". Of course, that was the official first day of the war, but Hussein had been lobbing missiles at us for weeks at that point.

Yes we did! We had to pay for our own "uparmor" on the vehicles. It was better than nothing I guess.
