New Great Pyrenees pup
« on: July 23, 2009, 04:30:31 pm »
Congrats on the new pup!  Pyrs are great dogs in my opinion, my kids hung all over ours and he never once got upset with them.  They're a more independent dog, but I always loved that about mine.  He was pretty stubborn sometimes, but my wife just claimed he was taking his cues from me.   ;D  After I get my house finished (a month or two) I'll be looking for two Pyr pups (one boy, one girl) myself.

Here's my middle girl with our Pyr, Luc:

I love those dogs!  Beautiful Gentle Giants!

I'd like to get one of these beautiful whities and then get a Newfoundland!  I can name them salt and pepper (just joking that name is dumb)

The Az. chapter of the Great Pyrenes Rescue was at the Az Mills Mall yesterday!  They had about seven dogs just hanging around.  I wanted to take one home!

They're not your typical dog...at least in my experience.  Luc would come over when we walked out into the yard, visit for a  while, then go sit and watch the kids from a close-by hillside.  Some of them are real barkers, but we never had that problem unless he was warning something/someone away.  Hopefully George's pup sticks with that tendency as well...cause they have a POWERFUL voice when they bark.  Real guardian dogs.

    Powerful voice?
Roger that.  Even as a Pup, Bear is louder than Kenyan.

It's cool when you get a new pup.
I'm still not right after losing both of my Labs over the past year. It'll be a while for me. I do want another security pooch though.

I feel the same way about my wolves.  Both gone now.  No dog will be a replacement for them... this Pup is for one of my boys really.  It's his dog.

George if you've got access to more of those Pyrenes go for it!  I wouldn't readily discount any of those eastern european mountain herding dogs.  All of them are amazing watching over their family/flock.  And they will die trying to protect you/yours.  It's just when they're that size they don't die easy!   :rotfl

    Congrats!

My Dad had a Pyrenees/Golden Retriever mix, she was a beautiful dog.  Very sweet but protective of her house.

Her only issue was the thunder thing.  She would go hide in the tub whenever the afternoon showers came over in Colorado.  I am thinking that a few trips to the range while it is a pup will help prevent this issue.
