Now what do I do?
« on: May 31, 2015, 10:34:48 pm »
A friend of a friend called me, laughing, saying a buddy of theirs had trapped a skunk, and Now that I have trapped the darn thing, what do I do now?

He lives in the city, started a small garden, and decided to get a live trap to catch critters. He never thought ahead as to what to do with whatever trapped, much likely a skunk.
Oh, he does not have a truck, only a small SUV.

And folks wonder why some of us do not watch reality TV, there is way too much funny stuff that goes on around one day in and day out.

So...I showed up in my truck, and give lessons on how to very very carefully use a old tarp to cover the live trap, and toss into the bed of my truck.

Me: We have  options. One is to let is out onto someone's property you don't like, two is to drown it, another is shoot it while in the trap.

Him: I am afraid you will hit my new live trap.
Me: I explained I have a PhD in shooting critters in a live trap, with .22 lr and especially .17HMR and have never damaged a live trap.

He decided on just letting the skunk go, out in the country.
Fine. Still I shared skunks can and will spray, and it would be best he did not let the skunk spray in the bed of the truck.
He asked why, which I shared, he is not riding back in the cab of my truck if the skunk sprays. There is a reason there is a bumper sticker that says: Get in the back of the truck and shut up.   :P

Skunk has a new home out in the country, the fellow was able to ride back in the cab of truck.
He did comment, this was his first time to have a garden, and there is lot more to it, than first imagined.

I grinned, and reminded him, to not forget me, when he picked some goodies from the garden.

None of us will ever accomplish anything excellent or commanding except when he listens to this whisper which is heard by him alone.

A much simpler solution would have been to transfer the trap to an empty garbage can rather than the truck.  Put the lid on, with a hose running under the lid, and turn the hose on to just a tiny trickle that will not spook anything.  Come back when you see water coming out under the lid...
