Smith & Wesson M&P10mm M2.0
« on: November 16, 2021, 09:17:18 am »
Remember a few years back when S&W teased the "M&P10" and everybody got excited about a new 10mm pistol only to be disappointed to learn that the new M&P10 was, in fact, an AR-10 variant?

Well, I have some good news!

15+1 capacity, optics-cut slide that uses S&W's C.O.R.E. mounting system, and per TFB TV (not posting the video here since James Reeves is an even bigger flaming d@uche canoe than usual in it), it has a brand-new trigger that's better than a standard Glock or M&P trigger, has surprisingly soft felt recoil for a 10mm, and most holsters and mag pouches that fit M&P45's will work with the M&P10mm.

Not gonna lie, I've never really been in to the M&P line before, and I don't think I've fired one other than the first-gen Shield 9mm I tried waaaaay back when, but I'm actually kind of excited about this one.

I have always felt the same about the M&P line, even though I do have a first gen shield in both 9mm and 45 ACP.  I picked those up on impulse when they were giving them away after rebate to clear the shelves for the 2.0.

But I am kinda excited about this one.  The 4.0" with thumb safety is especially appealing to me. This seems like a great option for appendix carry users.  There are also lots of M&P fans out there that will be happy about this

Nothing on Gunbroker yet.  Curious to see if these sell over MSRP like the SA-35 is.

Nice to see more 10mm options.    Overall, I'm kind of "meh" on the M&P line.   However, I do have an M&P 40  that I picked up last year.   Local shop had some like new police trade-ins that they were selling for $300,  so I snagged one.

You were right about the video.  Most of the time I don't mind James Reeves and sometimes he is actually funny, but he was extra douchey on this one.

Agreed.  It doesn't take a very long video for me to get enough of that guy.  I was never a big fan of the M&P series - particularly the first generation - but the latest versions are definitely improved.  The .45 versions of the full sized guns ran well and the recoil was very manageable for me so hopefully the 10mm is as well.  I'm probably not a buyer on the 10mm at this point but it fills a hole in the S&W lineup for sure.   :thumbup1

I might be tempted if the price was right, but it would have to be a very good deal.     I've already got other 10mm options.

Got to shoot one of these today.  It was S&W Day at my usual range, and the factory rep had (among other things) a 10mm M&P on hand to demo.  I only got 5 rounds of mid-power Federal FMJ (180 grains at 1050-ish fps IIRC), no full-power stuff on hand, but I was surprised at how much I liked it.  Recoil felt a little spicier than my SIG P220.  It felt surprisingly good in the hand (I've never fired a full-size M&P before).  My only complaint is that the grip texture was just a little too aggressive for my weak nancy-boy hands.

I have always felt that full snort 10mm is one of those cartridges that benefits from a longer barrel ( 5" - 6" ) and some heft out front to help tame the recoil and keep the muzzle down.  S&W seems to be going for a service pistol in 10mm rather than something like a dedicated woods/hunting pistol like the Dan Wesson "Bruin" or the SIG "Legion".    :hmm

Interesting.   Available in 4" anda longer 4.6" barrel.   And available with a thumb safety!    :thumbup1

I saw one in the wild the other day and I am impressed. The price is good, it feels good in the hand, and the round is formidable and has a great capacity.

You aren't kidding about that grip texture. I used to make complaints about the Gen 3 Glock grips being slippery. I will never make such a comment about this gun  :rotfl .

I have gotten a wild hair up my ass lately and have been eyeing bigger handguns lately. I saw a 3 inch 686+ and bought it. I carried that 2.5 inch version of mine for years, but I sold it in college. I can't tell you how happy I am to have that gun back and be able to put all of my accessories to good use again.

Texas has been having 106F heat lately, but once I can brave a range day and vet everything, I am thinking of carrying the old magnum again. I know that the 'experts' say only 7 rounds in a cylinder will "getcha kilt in da streetz" compared to having a Glock 19 with 3 mags on you, but sentimentality and familiarity with the gun are hard things to get past.

Do we forget that cops were primarily still using 6 Shot Revolvers well through the mid 80's? It wasn't until after 1986 that most departments then relented and went to autos.
Capacity wasn't really an issue then... and honestly really it's not even an issue now.
