Questions about accessorizing new Glock 19 gen 3
« on: May 10, 2021, 09:57:49 pm »
I bought a new Glock 19 generation 3 today. I'd like to put a weapon light on it and possibly make it suppressor ready. There are shops here that sell suppressors and I think my county sheriff would would approve the paper work. I've never owned a suppressor before but I know I'd need a threaded barrel and suppressor sights. I'm thinking I might like an optic for it but I've never used one on a pistol.

Does anybody have suggestions about what parts to use and/or opinions about the pros and cons of an optic?

I don't have an answer as to parts and optic, but I'd suggest you explore the pros and cons of Form 1 cans as opposed to a Form 4 transfer of a commercial can.  There are some benefits over the commercial cans, cost being one, and they really are not that complicated to build.
Also IIRC, the requirement for the CLEO to sign off on your paperwork has been eliminated in the past few years.
Lastly I'd suggest you look into forming an NFA trust before you apply for any tax stamps. I'm pleased with guntrustguru (search him).

Thank you! It's all a bit of a mystery to me.

Also, does anybody know if gen 1 magazines work in a gen 3? I put one in my new gen 3 and it was a bit tight and only has a notch on the left side. The gen 3 mag has notches on both sides of the magazine and eject from my gen 1 easily.

    Gen 1,2,3 magazines are interchangeable.

I would have to have a good reason not to use Silencer Central if I were buying a suppressor.  They seem to make it very easy.  I have never done business with them however.  In my research they seem to be one of the better options.

There are a wide variety of threaded barrels available for the G19.  A quick check showed them in stock at MidwayUSA, CTD (ick), etc.  Personally the cheap ones ($100 and up) shoot better than I do, so I don't usually drop big bucks on a premium name.  Storm Lake or Alpha Wolf is fine with me.  I don't have a Swenson or SGM, but the prices are right so I would probably take a chance.

I think an RMR is a great addition.  You will need a slide cut to your existing slide ($100 + options) or a new RMR cut slide ($220 + options).

TBH, I would think hard about selling the G19 Gen 3 if you got a good deal on it and buying a G19 Gen 4 MOS if you can find one.  A two year GSSF membership would qualify you for LE/Wholesale pricing and you might even make money on the deal and would end up with an RMR ready gun.

Old school caution and holstering fail safe:

From my perspective, the most important add on for any Glock handgun is a Striker Control Device.  Just one more seamless layer of safety when holstering the pistol.

I worked for a Sheriff's Office. During weapon inspection a deputy had a negligent discharge while holstering his dept issued Glock and shot himself in the butt. The bullet struck the floor, fragmented and slightly injured another deputy standing nearby. It could have been a lot worse.
