My first Polymer gun and first 9mm
« on: April 29, 2017, 02:04:43 pm »
I have been in the market for a 9mm for a while now and just kept going back and forth and what I would end up with. Couldn't decide if I wanted a 1911 in 9mm something compact for carry only or something I could possibly carry and have fun with at the range. So the last 2 months I have just been going over and over it in my head because I told myself I just needed to decide. For a while I was leaning towards the Jericho 941 3.8inch model. But couldn't find anyone local with one in stock to see if I liked it specially since the polymer one has built in finger grooves. So today I said screw it and went to the gun store and handled a few different configurations of the xd's and mp's. Checked out the new Walther Creed and a couple different rugers. One thing I noticed on a couple of the guns that had a finger groove right under the trigger was the the groove was always to small for my finger and felt uncomfortable. But there was one pistol I really liked the feel of and ended up taking home with me. The CZ P-07 with the medium back strap  it just felt perfect in my hand. I also liked the weight and natural point of aim of it.

Anyone have any personal pro's or con's they have had with the gun? Any good places to pick up extra mags for it? Also in popular upgrades? It already has night sights on it so that is covered for now.

CZs are great guns in my personal experience. I have owned a few CZ-75 models.

I think Ogre has run some p-07 models IIRC.

I have never heard anyone have substantial negative opinions on CZs. Folks might not like the style/safety etc, but I never heard of one that didn't shoot reliably and accurately.

Welcome to the cul- uh club! Yeah, that's what I meant, welcome to the club!

Nice thing about the P-07 is that you can swap the manual safety out for a decocker if you so desire.

Yeah, it came with the decocker already installed in it.

Also, I do have interest in the cz 75's as well...

While I don't personally own any CZ firearms, it is to my knowledge that while they are not mainstream, they are pretty special.

I'd take a CZ over a XD or even an M&P at this point, I think.

We have 2 P-07's, both Urban Grey suppressor ready models. They are fantastic. The SA trigger is excellent. I was on the fence between the P-09 and P-07. Then I went to a shop that had them both in stock. The P-07 gave me a bigger smile, so it went home with us. Then a while later we bought another.

We also have an FDE P-10C on order. Hopefully that will come around sometime in the next month or so. We also have a CZ Scorpion pistol. Someday I may SBR that one.

Congrats on your selection.   :thumbup1    CZ's generally put a big smile on the faces of those who acquire them.

Speaking of that, I went to the range shortly after buying the P-07. There was a guy there that just bought a Sig Legion P226, roughly $1200-$1300. I was shooting and decided to slap the suppressor on it. The Legion owner and his friend started watching. I asked if they wanted to try it, and the Legion owner jumped at the chance.

After shooting it he had a big smile. I asked if he wanted to try the gun without the can and he said yes. After trying it out he was looking the gun over and said it was awesome. I told him it was only $499. The smile went away as he looked at the Legion and said it was a lot more. He said his next gun would be a CZ.

That seems to be a fairly common reaction when people actually put rounds down range from a CZ regardless the model.  They tend to get nit- picked a lot because there just aren't any glaring flaws in the design or execution.  The ones I am personally familiar with are also relentlessly reliable with factory ammo.

They do have a slide that is the thickness of a credit card, though  :neener. I'm so used to hamfisting the giant slide on a Sig or Glock that the CZ has a learning curve for me. That little bitty slide does come with the benefit of minimal recoil though.

True. The slide is more difficult to get your mitts on to rack it. Though the new P-10C will fix that issue. Can't wait for the FDE modeI ordered.

Honestly, the slide thickness/height has never bothered me on my CZ-75. I just rack the slide when I load up for the first time, then when I have to reload I hit the slide release with my thumb, even though I know that will undoubtedly get me KILLED IN THE STREET! if I ever do that in a gunfight.

It will totally get you "kilt in da streetz"  ;). Working a slide stop on my Glock will get me the decocker on my Sig, and I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that the slide stop on your CZ will get you the safety on your 1911 (switching it off of "safe" twice, making it twice as unsafe  :neener).

We're gun people, we can't agree on anything  ;).

The only common complaint I hear about CZ's that I don't quite understand is that people say they get shot to pieces and don't hold up well. I think we even have some competition members here who have said that a CZ will have a part failure or something go wrong at about 15k rounds, while other brands can last until 20k or something like that. Who started that criticism and why? I'm curious.

Only complaint I can come up with so far is the price of extra mags. Holy heck almost 50 bucks for a single mag. So that means the gun cost $400 and they gave me $100 worth of mags to begin with.  :shocked

Dunno.   :hmm   I don't own a single gun that I have actually fired 15,000 rounds through.  I've got a couple that are approaching maybe 10,000 but even those have had springs and things replaced on them over time.

Only thing I've ever heard in that regard is the trigger return spring on the 75 models can wear out and break. Cajun Gun Works and (I think) CZCustom sell trigger return springs made from music wire that are supposed to last much longer than the stock springs.

I'd like to one day be able to afford to shoot several thousand rounds through any of my guns. I think that most Americans are gun collectors and not shooters. Here on WTA we just happen to have the most ambitious of the bunch  :cool.

If you practice or compete, or both, on a regular basis, you can easily shoot 3,000+ rounds a year through a gun.

I have a 1911 that I had to replace an extractor and realized I had put around 11,000 rounds through it!

My personal favorites are pinshooting and steel.  I tried IDPA and USPSA a few times, just weren't as fun.

Took it and my 1911 to the range yesterday on my lunch break. Put about 75 rounds through it. Very good shooting gun. I Did find if my finger isn't in a certain spot on the trigger that it would get pinched slightly though. Easy fix though. Now to find a holster for it and a couple of the over priced mags.
