Kalashnikov PL-14
« on: June 19, 2015, 10:21:37 am »
I saw this yesterday about a new Russian pistol.

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/06/19/kalashnikov-concern-lebedev-pl-14-official-press-release/

Details are a little sparse, but I hope to learn more soon.  For example, does it use a Browning type action, one like the Strike One, or something else?

I e-mailed Kalashnikov USA to see if they would be adding the PL-14 pistol to their offerings as today's import restrictions will keep the pistol from being brought in from Russia.  This is their response:  "We’re just starting to ramp up production on the Kalashnikov’s, the first guns we are making will be the 7.62 and 12 GA, at some point the plan is to have all the Russian guns made here in the US and I’m sure the PL-14 will be one of them."  Not exactly a commitment, but sounds more like hopeful optimism on his part.

Anyway, this piqued my interest and thought I'd share.

Like the Strike One, I'd love to try one of these.

Strike one was the first thing I thought of when I saw it.  I guess those lines appeal to people who glow in the dark.

Do we forget that cops were primarily still using 6 Shot Revolvers well through the mid 80's? It wasn't until after 1986 that most departments then relented and went to autos.
Capacity wasn't really an issue then... and honestly really it's not even an issue now.

This thing looks like a Savage M1907 and a Whitney Wolverine had a baby...

Aesthetics aside, it looks to be fairly conventional internally. From the angle of the pic I can't tell if it has a concealed hammer, or if it's striker fired...The shiny metallic projection protruding from the top of the frame looks like a hammer, possibly.....

Interesting, I'd like to see an in-depth review...

    http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg/rus/pl-14-e.html

If I'm understanding this page right (it reads like it was translated from Russian to English with Google Translate), the gun seems to be hammer fired with a single-action only trigger. And while the prototypes use aluminum frames with wood grips, production models may have polymer frames with interchangeable grip panels of various sizes and configurations.

Looks interesting, and by that I mean it looks like it could be a prop in the new Star Wars movie. Which is not, IMO, a bad thing.
