My amazing wife, allowed me to pick up a new gun the other day. I've been watching a lot of videos, and checking out reviews, and was set on getting a CZ of some sort. I was looking at the metal frame models, like the 75B, SP-01, and P-01, with the two polymer frame versions I was looking at being the P-07 and P-09. Even better, they recently came out with the suppressor ready model, that comes with the threaded barrel, and tritium suppressor height sights.
I went to try out a few of the guns and see which one I wanted to buy, but nobody had all of them in stock. In fact, many of the stores didn't even have any CZ pistols at all. Sad. We were moseying through Utah county and decided to try a couple stores there to see if they had anything. First was Get Some in Orem. They were the first store that had the suppressor ready model there. Unfortunately it was on layaway for another customer. But they let me check it out and see what I thought. It was the P-09 model, and was quite nice. The SA trigger was amazing. Since that was the only one there, we didn't end up buying one. Before the employee brought out that one, he had another suppressor ready model that he brought out. I immediately told him I wanted the other one, since this model of the P-09 didn't have suppressor sights.
Here is the link for that version. I told him the sights are high enough to see over the can. He said I just need to get a Silencerco Osprey. I advised him that I already had one, and they aren't tall enough. He wanted to prove me wrong, so he went and snagged an Osprey. I said that I tried to use standard Glock sights with it, and that they weren't tall enough. He still didn't believe me. After putting in the piston, putting it up to the gun, he noticed he may be wrong. After screwing it on the barrel, it was confirmed that he was wrong. He was happy for the new information.
Cruising a little deeper into Utah County, we went to Gunnies. Amazingly enough, they had the P-07 and P-09 suppressor ready models in their case. Jumping for joy on the inside, we asked to handle them both. Yes, both of them were awesome. They just fit our hands really well. I asked which one Mrs. Snurd liked the most. She liked the P-07 the best. She asked me the same question, and it I was having a hard time figuring out with one would be coming home with us. They really are both excellent feeling handguns. The P-09 is roughly the same size as the Glock 17, and the P-07 is roughly the same as the Glock 19. Looking at my reactions with both guns, Mrs. Snurd said I had a bigger smile with the P-07.
With that in mind, and the fact we already have a full size XDM suppressor ready model, the decision was made to pick up the P-07.
In the store the guns we tried were a bit stiff in the slide area. Cycling the action, they weren't anything fantastic. I thought it was mostly because they needed to be cleaned and oiled. I was right. Getting the gun home, I cleaned it up and oiled the gun. The action was much, much smoother. The trigger, as I said earlier, is really nice in the SA mode. The DA trigger is fairly heavy, and isn't super smooth, but I think after some dry fire work, or shooting it a bunch, it will smooth out and be pretty nice.
I really like the color. It's Urban Grey, which is grey and FDE mixed together. This makes a color that goes really well with the black slide and other parts.
It comes from the factory with an ambidextrous decocker, If you would rather have a safety, it comes in the box and can be switched out by the user fairly easily, from what I hear. The safety is also ambidextrous. I like the decocker, so I won't be switching it out for now.
The magazine usually holds 15 rounds, but this version has a +2 base pad on both mags. So it holds 17+1. The P-09 comes the same way, and usually holds 19, but with the extra capacity, is a 21+1 gun straight from the factory. If you don't like the +2 base plates, it also comes with the standard base plates that can be easily switched out. Or you can have the standard 15 round mag for carrying, and the 17 round mag as a backup.
The back straps are interchangeable. It comes with the smallest one on the gun. A medium and large back strap are in the box.
The mag release is steel, and is located in a great place. It's simple to reach, and isn't sharp or pokey like some others that I have used. The Glock gen 3 mag releases are usually pretty sharp, and for me who doesn't have small hands, I have to change my grip a bit to get a good press on it. I would say it's probably my favorite mag release I've had on a gun. Not that it's a reason to buy the gun, but it's a well made piece.
Besides watching videos on this and other CZ guns, one of the reasons I wanted to get one is that it's different from what a lot of people have. There are so many Glocks, M&P's, XD's, and other similar guns, it's cool to have something different that's not seen a lot at ranges or even gun stores. That's one of the reasons I wanted the Lionheart LH9 MKII as well. It's different, smooth, and a neat little gun.
Range session:We cruised to The Armory to try out the new gun. Unfortunately Mrs. Snurd wasn't able to shoot it since she's quite prego, so she watched from the window. I shot about 4 magazines with 5 rounds per mag and the shots were 2-3 inches high and a bit to the right. I figured I would need to get used to it, and after those mags, they started hitting just above point of aim. I would say the first 4 mags were probably about a 2" group at 7 yards, and once it got a few rounds through it, the group shrunk a lot. I decided to pull in the target to 5 yards and test it there. I had one ragged hole with a 5 round group. That was the best group I had for the day. I also tested it with the suppressor on it, and it was hitting really well with that screwed onto the end. I shot a total of 95 rounds through it today.
There were a few others shooting close by, so I asked if they wanted to try it out with the suppressor on it. All three tried it out, and really liked it. One of the guys that I let shoot the CZ said he didn't like the polymer guns. Didn't like Glocks or most of the others. He has a Sig P320, but I guess wasn't really impressed with it. He said that he REALLY liked the CZ. He was surprised it was a CZ, and said he would be getting one.
It seemed like he couldn't believe how much he liked it. I told him the price, and he kind of sheepishly looked at his Sig Legion P226 SAO, and said he spent a lot more on that gun. On a side note, he let me try is Legion as well. Really smooth gun, and the trigger was fantastic!
This little CZ is an awesome gun. It's really smooth, the trigger is great, and it has great options straight from the factory. The price? For the suppressor ready version, it was $499.99 at Gunnies. That's a crazy good price for a setup like this. Most guns, you pay for the gun and still need the sights and threaded barrel. A lot of the polymer guns you can get for around $500-$550, but then for the tritium suppressor sights, you are probably going to pay around $125-150, and the threaded barrel is around $125-$250.
I am very happy that my wife allowed me to pick this up.
